Question 04 altima- belt flops when a/c is on. why??

Maybe your A/C compressor clutch is seizing? Does it start to rev on its own at all when your at idle?

no it doesnt rev on its own. just when i turn on the a/c the belt starts floping and when i drive it drives fine and when i idle again it flops again. then w/o the a/c on its fine

I would guess the tensioner is about to break or is going bad. Try pushing on on it and see if it is hard or easy to move.

This is strange... Is your check engine light on or anything?

Only happens when the A/C is on eh? Probably the A/C compressor. If it were the tensioner it would happen all the time. It's a rather expensive part(400+) to replace plus you would have to refill ur refrigerant after install. But of course, have checked out by a tech to confirm this.
