Default 05' Altima SER gas grade

I'm contemplating buying my cousins SER (05') . Can someone tell me the grade of gasoline it needs? He puts 89 in, he thinks the manual says 87 but the only evidence I find online is 91?
Thanks!

Premium gas. Lower grade works but i wouldnt recommend it because of loss of performance. Buy better gas its worth it.

87 is fine, but you get crappy performance. Premium is recommended, but not required.

They are all right. It will run on the cheap stuff, but it will wake up with a full tank of Sunoco premium!! For a couple buck more per tank, treat it right and go high octane!

of course 87 is fine, but for maximum performance, nissan recommends 93 octane for the vq35 motors. name brand gases like shell, bp, and gulf are the best. dont go to ----ty no brand stations because most put regular in all tanks(its your car, its gonna love you back as much as you love it). also synthentic oil over conventional is relatively the same argument.

I've used 87 for 2 years, without a problem. My company pays for my gas, I don't have much of a choice.

I literally just put my first tank of gas in my '06 SE-R. Checked the manual and it said 87 would be fine, but 91 or 93 was recommended. I have noticed a sizable difference in performance; even in the sound while accelerating. Obviously no expert seeing as I got the car 3 days ago, but my guess would be to stay with premium. I know I will next time and from now on.

So you put in premium and noticed a difference already When i started using 0% ethanol gas it took 2 tanks before i saw any millage and smoothness gains.I'm using 89 pure and she is silky smooth.

I actually went the reverse; I put regular in it and clearly the dealer had been running it with premium, as is recommended (at least 91, 93 is even better of course). And yeah, I did notice a sizable difference...mainly in the pick up that my SE-R had. Runs fine when up to speed, but the acceleration wasn't as strong...which, for all intent purposes, is one of the best things about having an SE-R.

I do question how much placebo effect you experience knowingly putting in a lower grade of gas. The tiny amount of hp, imo an unmeasurable amount, would be very difficult to feel. I've gone back and forth a time or two and have never noticed a difference.
