Default 2002 Altima Recalls , need advise

4 recalls I know of and hear people taking about.
Car has 100k Miles on it. 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 SE Sedan. Also I was told by my brother that it's a 2002. Is there a way to check the year of the car?

Pre CAT falling apart and releasing material into engine.

Butterfly screws falling into engine.

Crank posistion sensor

Cam Posistion sensor

I think the CAM and the CRANK sensors are fine but what are the symptoms of when 1 or both are failing? Can these 2 cause permanent engine damage if they do go bad?

Is it safe to say that if the Pre CAT and the Butterfly screws didn't go bad by now that it's okay not to mess with it? Or should I just grab a aftermarket exhaust piece to do away with the Pre CAT and check the butterfly screws and loctite them?

Thanks again,
DamianJP

check your vin. If the 10th Number/letter is "2" its an 2002. mine is "6" so I have a 2006.

Thank big time on the year chart info!

Any advise about the recalls?

Also would a nissan dealership take care the recall(s) for free or a small charge?

Thanks,
DamianJP

if the recalls are issued by nissan and there is a notification then the dealer should do the repairs for no charge. that does not mean they wont try and get you to pay for service you dont need or try to rake you over the coals for unrelated repairs.

Search Type: VEHICLE
Make: NISSAN
Model: ALTIMA
Model Year: 2002

Results : 12 | All records displayed

also there is the official Altimaforums recall sticky : http://www.altimaforums.net/list-alt...alls-t200.html

The butterfly screws were part of a service campaign. You should give the dealer a call and give them your VIN # to see if there are any outstanding recalls. The precat was never officially a recall.

Cam and crank sensors are common. Extended cranking and lack of power are tell tale signs.
