Hello folks, just bought a used 2002 Altima with the 3.5 V6, and every time I start the car, or turn the ignition off, something under the hood makes a sort of "whirring" noise, about 6 times and then it stops. Sounds like some sort of small motor or pump. I'm guessing it's normal, but what is this???? Also, many times when I start the car, what sounds like a belt makes one shrieking sound and immediately stops once the car is running. Any thoughts?
I just stopped and let the service advisor at my local Nissan dealership have a listen. He said it is the ABS pump pressurizing at startup, and depressurizing at shutoff. I forgot to mention this to him, but I do notice it also does it occassionally while I'm driving, most noticable when I'm sitting at a stoplight. So I'm assuming the pressure must be "built-up" occassionally while driving as well. Make sense to anyone?
