2010 Altima radio issue
I have a bit of a screwed up issue with the radio. Hopefully someone can help. I would rather not go to the dealer and leave my car with them for a day being that I can't live without my car because I am a contractor and need a vehicle to go from client to client and am working 60 hour weeks.
Here is the issue, I set a station on a preset to what I want (press and hold any button 1-6 until you hear a tone). Preset station is set until I turn off the car, once I turn off the car and back on it reverts to what it was set at prior to changing the preset and it reverts back to preset 2 (a station that I was not listening to previous). This also happens with the time, set the time and it reverts back after you turn off the car. I tried disconnecting the battery for 6 hours and reconnecting but that did not work, it cleared the time and after changing it about 30 times it finally took....I have no such luck (if you want to call it that) with the station presets.
I have never had this problem before in any other car that I have owned and am not afraid to take apart the dash to pull the piece out (I do a lot of my own work on cars, I won't rebuild an engine or trans but will replace shocks/struts, oil, trans fluid, radios, speakers, window motors, headers, cat, mufflers, etc)

Seems like a hardware issue you won't be able to work out with troubleshooting.....i'm assuming this is the stock radio non-bose? If so, it'd be more worth your while to buy a new radio that won't hurt your wallet then it would going to a dealership if you don't have the time... (I'd suggest the following: and a wiring harness:
will cost you about 75 bucks for everything....you won't need a dash kit either considering the fact that you can iso mount these kenwoods without seeing a ridiculous gap.
however, considering your car is most likely under warranty, you might just want to bite the bullet and find a way to drop it off there for a day if this issue bothers you that much.

Bose radio with built in reverse cam. 49369 miles just missed the warranty by 13369 miles. A 70 dollar radio won't cut it without some hacking. Not to mention that I would loose the bluetooth which is why I got this package.
Just so we are all on the same page

Your probably going to have to take it in. It's still under warranty, see if your dealer gives loaner cars.

Dealer does not ofFer loaner, during the final sale one of my stipulations to getting an extended warranty was that I require a loaner when dropping the car off for any work not just warranty work that would take more than one day to complete, they declined the extra money. I keep telling myself I should have bought a bmw. I just can't afford what I want, a 300hp sedan with bluetooth, heated seats and a moon roof.
I have almost 50k miles doesn't warranty end at 36k miles? Drivetrain to 120k (or at least tranny).

Wow dealers must be able to change extended warranties then. I got one and they give a loaner if they have it. I had my car in for oil change and inspection and told them i needed a car and they gave me one. Bmw are over priced but I hear the people get taken care of pretty well. I thought I drive alot but my 25k miles is nohing compared to yours.
I'd call the dealer anyways to see if they can still try it under warranty. If not call Nissan head quarters and complain, I hear that works good. I wouldn't know what else to do besides replacing with aftermarket. There was a software update that I had done to my car but Im not sure if that's what you need or if it would even work.

Yep I drive a min of 100 miles a day. Bluetooth is a must with phone laws. I get between 415 and 430 miles to the tank. I fill up 1.5 times a week on average.
But that is besides the point, I will have to make an appt with the dealer, I just hate doing it...they are such a rip off for basic crap, electrical problems usually are high priced.

If you do not have an extended warranty the dealer is by far going to be more expensive. Even though it is listed as Bose Premium sound, Bose does not make the head unit, only the Amp and speakers. I am not sure who makes the head unit, which is where it sounds like your problem lies. With that being the case you have a few options. You may be able to go on Ebay and buy the head unit for a 2010 Altima. That way you could possible replace the unit yourself. I am sure you can google replacing the head unit and it should just be removing it and pluging the new one in and remounting it. Or go to a audio shop and get a price on a drop in replacement and installation. Either way it is going to be cheaper and you could do it on a weekend saving the loaner. If you can wait until Jan or Feb the price would be better at a audio shop as that is there slow time ( depending where you live) Either way it is going to be cheaper than the dealer and rental , probably 300-350 max. It sounds like the internal memory unit in the head is not working. Not being familiar with the wiring to the unit, i wonder if there is wire that provides a voltage to the unit with the car off that maintains the memory. It might be worth researching to find out if you have a bad wire or harness connection. Just a thought. Good Luck!!

FYI I just googled" auto radio loosed presets when car tuned off" and i saw numerous articles like this, may be worth a try.You may have a blown fuse in one of the fuse holders called out in the article below.
Car Stereo will NOT save/remember settings!?!?
Car stereo will not save settings, everytime i switch off the ignition, it loses its settings.
Heard something about swapping wires around, but how do i do this? what do i use to pull out the wires etc???
Thanks

Most car stereos have two power wires. One is controlled by the ignition switch so that it turns the stereo off when you turn off the key (so it wont run the battery down). The other wire is used to power the clock and keep the memory, this wire must be connected to power all the time.
The colors of the wires will vary depending on the brand of stereo, it would be best if you could get a copy of the owners manual for the stereo, it would show the wiring (you might be able to get one from the web-site for the brand of stereo you have).
Assuming you have the original wiring harness coming from the stereo, you will probably find that two of the wires have fuse holders, these will be the two hot wires. One connects to power controlled by the key, the other connects to continuous power. Both of these connections can be found at the fuse panel but are also likely to appear in the vehicle wiring harness for the original radio that came with the vehicle. A voltmeter or test light can be used to determine which wire has continuous power and which one is switched by the key. If you have them reversed, the radio may continue to work even though the key is off or the memory will still be lost when the key is turned off, in this case, try swapping them.
It is possible that the memory power wire is not even connected right now, this would mean that you have a spare wire that is not connected, perhaps connecting it to power would resolve the problem. There is likely a spare wire (often blue but could be any color) which is intended to control a power antenna or amplifier, dont feed power into this wire as it might damage something. Again, get an owners manual if possible.

Not sure what to make out of that post. Crossed wires or fuses or both. I think the poster of that article is confused. I will check my fuses and take the dash apart to see if there are any inline fuses on the wires.

I do not think you have crossed wires, that would come with a new install. I think your problem lies with either a inline fuses or bad connection. If it is not the fuse I would check the wire where it enters the connection. These are typically a crimped contact that sometimes looses it's connection due to stress on the wire from a sharp bend.

Sorry to hear it was not something simple as a fuse. Hopefully they will go easy on you. You may want to play the card that you were disappointed in their marketing approach as they sell the package as a " Bose premium audio package" and in fact the head unit is not BOSE, even though it has BOSE printed on the head unit. Worth a try. If they end up replacing the unit make sure you grab the old unit. You may be able to recoup some of you loss by putting it on ebay. Even though the presets do not hold, somebody may still want it anyway. Might be able to grab 50 or so.
