'96 Gears not catching?
Hey everyone,
Just looking for a little assistance on my current problem.
There were a couple times in the past where after getting on the highway, around 60mph, my car (automatic) would not go into the next gear. I always thought it was just cold or something. But this happened maybe 2 or 3 times tops.
But now, when going into what seems to be 2nd/3rd/4th it will do the same thing. RPM's will rise and it won't drop into the next gear. If I hold on the gas or accelerate more it will very slowly accelerate then have a rough gear shift. Other times when it does this, I let go of the gas immediately, then hit it, and again it can be rough into next gear.
At the same time, I had an issue where my car just died a couple times, everything locked up and it wouldn't turn over. I got a brand new distributor and that has not happened again.
Also, before the new distributor, we thought it was the transmission fluid (we thought maybe I was out due to a leak), fit a whole new bottle in. But, a mechanic said it was the distributor, and he was half-right because my car has not "died" since.
It has 86k miles on it if it means anything.
Any thoughts?
