Default '98 iPod Intergration

Has anyone integrated an Aux In (3.5mm plug) into a 1998 Altima's stock head unit without using an FM transmitter???

I have searched this forum and the net and found only a couple of expensive units that say they plug into the back of the unit and add either an Aux input or an iPod plug.

I would rather have a setup that gives me a 3.5mm (regular headphone plug). Not only would this allow me to use the controls on the iPod itself rather than controlling the iPod through the head unit, but it also allows me to use other audio systems. Charging the iPod is not important to me.

Thanks for the help!!

Default Limited options

Well you're a little short on options, the easiest way to go about it is a wired FM modulator through the back of the deck then a panel or flush mount aux jack. Going through the back of the radio is gonna be pretty much your only option without the unit have an interface up front.

I have a 99 altima and getting to the back of the radio for such a thing is cake, i would go this route. Some fm modulators, like the one from peripheral come with an aux jack or the ipod proprietary hook up, the ipod hook up usually gives better sound quality than the aux jack and will charge your ipod as well. Only issue there is you need to tap a power and ground source and the 98-01 alitmas have no ground for the radio on the factory harness, although using a fork terminal and wedging it onto one of the mounting screw's quick tabs works fine. You can then just tap into the switched power and ground of the radio itself for the fm mod.

Default nissan altima 1998 ipod connector

I have nissan altima 1998 and I use ipod connector I found at nissanaltimaipodmp3.com for my car. It is really simple to use and easy to install and has all installation instructions if someone wants to install it themselves.

okay korniko, im sorry but i had to do some investigation as the easy and simple thing that people talk about when it comes to ipod integration never is. I took a look at you, the website, the domain info on the website, and the item you are talking about. It just looks like factory radio's cd changer is what is being used with a din cable that has been cut off and then spliced to something else. While it may work totally fine and do what is says I would be wary of the item as it uses a t-tap first off, and then also in the picture of the "connector" on the website I don't see anywhere a connection that can be made to the ipod, be it a aux cable or proprietary Ipod connection. I am EXTREMELY skeptical here, also due to the fact that the domain was created on the 2nd of august 09 and you joined the forums on the 14th....

I am just pointing out a few things here, I myself only joined on the 23rd of july so i am a spring chicken here too, I don't want to put you or the product down but it seems a bit fishy to me. If it works, great, more power to the product and thanks for bringing an alternative to the discussion, but the use of a t-tap is a big no-no in the automotive enviroment as they are vibration sensitive and can fail if being rattled alot. I would love to see if someone has or is gonna get this some pics of the install and a comment on the sound quality. I'm curious.....

It gives really high quality sound as no quality is lost in transmitting the music from ipod to the car radio/cd system.
This connector works for the Nissan models with a circular 8-PIN DIN socket connector on the back of their car stereo systems.

Hi Korniko,

I have bought the cable. I am just attaching the 8 pin of cable with the 8 pin din connector of the radio. But I don't understand what kind of splicing I need to do. Could you please explain it.

Thanks

The adapter from Racingline listed for use on the 3rd Gen Altima will work on any Nissan with the 8 pin din plug on the rear of it (found from 1998 to 12/2002). The input used for it is an 1/8" (3.5mm) plug.

Can you please send me full link for it. I am unable to find it.

Thanks

There is a wire that gets tapped into a power wire on the back of the OEM radio. 1 tap and route the 1/8" plug and switch out from behind the dash. On the 2002 Altima, most people locate them through the cubby hole in the center of the dash.

I can take out the radio very easily and can bring wire from the back of radio through cigratte tray and hook up my ipod. But, I am sorrry still not able to understand that do I just need to plug 8 pin male of cable into 8 pin din black connectker at the back of radio. I did see that this cable aux output that would go to IPOD but what is the purpose of wire with purple connector.

Think of that wire as a remote wire to turn the 'Aux' mode on in the OEM radio.

You are really teaching me like a teacher teaches a kid. But, definitely your kind help is helping me to resolve the problem. I bought another wire from ebay and it has just 8 pin male part but nothing else.

Will that purple male go into white port beneath the 8 pin connector or there is any path to connect it with radio?
