Default Accelerated tire wear

I have a 2008 Nissan Altima Sedan 2.5 S and am happy with the car except the rear tires wear out in about 20K miles. I've had a 4 wheel alignment and tried different brands. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what was the solution?

That is unusual, usually in these cars the fronts should wear first. Can you post printouts of the alignment data? Do you rotate them? Keep a lot of weight in the trunk? And what air pressure do you keep them at?

Also, do your tires wear evenly, meaning is it evenly worn across the tire? Or do they wear one side first, center first, outer edges first, etc.

Negative rear camber can be a tire shredder. I would also like to see your alignment specs.

I'm not sure about other altimas, but I know my SE-R has had excessive tire wear ever since I bought it. I'm pretty sure I know what the cause of that is though..my right foot. Lol

Thanks for all the responses.

I am using stock size tires; 215/60R16. I rotate them at 5-6K miles; pressure @ 32#; there's not alot of weight in the truck. The inside edge wears out first.

The alignment was done by Nissan dealer where the car was purchased. I'll see if I can find the alignment specs.

My friend has an Altima and is having the same issue - that's why I thought it might be a common problem.

Since the inside is wearing first that means it's because of camber. You can get adjustable camber arms for the rear or find a way to raise it up a little bit. I too have camber issues, but I'm lowered and have heavy audio equipment in the trunk so it's expected. I just rotate my tires every 2-3k miles to help cut down on the wear.

Make sure the rear ride height is checked. If you are low, it skews the alignment on the edge of factory specs, but everytime you go over a bump you end up putting too much pressure on the inner edge of the tires and they basically scrub off quickly.

I can tell you that the original tires that came on the car will wear prematurely. According to tire rack the were continental contiprocontact, they even get bad ratings on that site (6.8). I would look at anything 8's or better.

Bad or cheap tires does not cause rear tires to wear out on the inner edges of a front wheel drive car.

What is the measurement from the ground to the highest point on your wheel well?
