Default Air cleaner "rubber boot" nipple and hose missing

I just got a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 SE and noticed that the "rubber boot" in the aircleaner assembly should have a fitting to put a hose on there, it is broken off and there is just a hole there and the hose is missing too.

When I opened the engine bay for the first time I heard a slight whistling sound coming from the top of the engine and it has a hard plastic "nipple" to fit a hose on there. Is there supposed to be a hose going from my aircleaner part(16576P) fitting to the hard plastic fitting on top on the engine?

Type in...
"165 Air Cleaner 2002 altima" in GOOGLE
It should be the top first listing and the company is CourtesyParts.
This will give you a schematic to help you understand what I mean.

Im getting part 16576P at a local dealer.

But I cant find the hose that I think goes there.

Also what is the function of the hose going from the air intake to the top of the engine area? What damage can this do to my car with the hose missing and the air intake "boot" having a exposed hole in it?

Thanks,
DamianJP

A picture would be helpful, but I think the hose you need is the egr hose.

Dont have a camera right now and even if I did , I dont think that I can post a pic until I reach 5 post level.

My dad went to the dealer and got the 16576P part. He said the picture on the nissan dealer computer looked like the 16576P part (Rubber intake boot) has the hose built into it. So mabey theres no hose just all one piece.

Mabey someone with a third GEN altima can look in their engine bay and take a look for me.

Also I still want to know it's function and what damage could It have caused driving like this.

Thanks,
DamianJP

http://www.courtesyparts.com/16576p-...ml?cPath=4032&

engine "breather" hose connector, look for a hose hanging from under the engine cover.
1st & 2nd picture show it's location: http://www.aemintakes.com/instructio...1-545_inst.pdf
