Default airbag light on

I've got a 2010 Altima base model (the base model comes without a radio). I installed an Eclipse head unit today. Everything works except that after I finished the airbag light was on. I took the radio out and the light was still on. Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

Sometimes monkeying around with the electrical system/fuses/disconnecting the battery in my old BMW would kick on the airbag light. I ended up getting a airbag reset tool from Peake Research to take care of that problem. Cost is around $100 new but if they make one for Nissan maybe somebody out there has one you could rent or put a deposit on to use. I know people on ebay and BMW forums used to rent them out for a deposit, which was the cost of the tool; but you'd get your money back, probably minus a small usage free when you returned the tool.

Side note, there was a way around the tool with BMW by jumping two pins with a paperclip, but you had to know which ones. Anything is possible just do the research before you start jumping terminals! Wiring diagram from Nissan would probably help.

I just bought my first Nissan, 2k10 3.5SR Altima 3 weeks ago so I probably can't be much help in the technical department yet since all my previous knowledge lies with BMW and Toyota.

may just be from crossing wires or the system was not used to the raido so it kicked on a switch n which read the airbag. try using the consult or something to clear it. may clear right away. it also may be nothing. my cars traction control is lit up. the reason it is lit up is because the gauge cluster is from a different year that has traction control and mine does not. so the symbol is lit up but it means nothing. wheni plug in the machine it does not read any problems

Question Passenger Airbag

The passenger airbag light is on all the time on my 2010 2.5S. Does it automatically disarm when nobody is in the passenger seat? I remember having a bag of dog food in the passenger seat and the light was off.

The airbag light should turn off if someone is in the passenger seat. The airbag sensor then tells the ecu that there is someone sitting in the seat therefore if you're in an accident the airbag will deploy.

The airbag light came on because you had the passenger airbag indicator unplugged and you turned on the ignition.

To clear this, you don't need to waste $100 buying a tool, and you don't need to waste $90 at the dealership........it's a 2 minute fix.

Press the PTS button until it says on, your airbag light will blink repeatedly and then it will stop and disappear. As soon as this light disappears, press the button again without your foot on the brake to turn the car off. Repeat this process 2-3 more times and your airbag light will be cleared.
