Red face Another HID thread...

I know, I know - there are tons of these out there but I can't find any info on this specific issue. I've installed HID's in two different vehicles - one that reqired those anti-flicker capacitors and one that needed a wiring harness. Can someone explain to me why exactly these Altimas need a relay and harness to connect directly to the battery? If I'm not mistaken, all the ignitors need is 12v, which the existing wiring should supply with no problem. I'm just not getting the reason for the additional wiring. Most HID kits are what they call "plug and play" anyway which doesn't mean much though. I just want a simple, reliable hookup that can be reversed at will. The kit I am looking at is a Zenex kit from Amazon

Another thing I noticed about these HID kits - the last one's I had from DDM had a ballast and an ignitor. Do these just come all together now? I am assuming, considering there is no other way to arc those bulbs (not with 12v anyway)

i don't get it...my DDM setup was basically plug and play...no extra wiring or relays. NO problems in over a year.

What makes it different on your 4th gen?

I think you might have summed up my point - why does everyone say that I need a relay harness etc for the install? My Chrysler was a special case because I needed the anti-flicker capacitors, but when I installed them in my Jeep I had to use a harness otherwise they wouldn't turn on at all. This is my first import in a long time so I am wondering if it should be just that easy? Just buy the kit, plug it in and actually see at night? Honestly with the money companies put into these vehicles I am surprised that HID isn't the ONLY choice...

the kit I bought from my local car audio shop was simple plug 'n play. They said I didn't need a relay and the harness came with the kit. The cancelers are only needed if you have a european car like a vw or audi. They installed my HIDs low beams through the wheel well.

I hadn't been able to use them on the day I had them installed, but yesterday after work now that daylight savings time is over, I was able to turn them on on the commute back home. Man they're sweet!! They light up the roads a lot!!

Cool! Thanks for the imput. I know what you mean, I leave home before the sun comes up and don't get back until it's set now. Good news is they should work according to y'all - bad news is now I have to convince my wife to part with $50+...

I got the xentec kit for my headlights and fog lights (same bulbs) for 30$ each pair on ebay....6 months later they still work great and now I can blind squirrels right out of trees.

gameguru1360 :

kinda off topic, but what are you using for your reverse bulbs??? I have the same taillights and tint...so backing up at night requires my head out the window.
