Hi everyone,
I'm new to altima forums and this is my first post.
I have an automatic transmission 2006 Altima SE-R. I have 80,000 miles on the vehicle. About a week ago my transmission started to slip or at least give indications that it is slipping. When driving at highway speeds (approx 70mph) the engine would suddenly rev high as if it had slipped out of gear and then would jerk the vehicle when it dropped back into gear. I believe the jerk of the vehicle is due to the vehicle dropping back into gear at such high RPM's. It has done this about 8 or 9 times in the past week. Well this morning driving to work it happened again and this time the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Additionally, I temporarily lost access to the lower gears on the transmission (when I went into manual shift mode regardless of the speed I could not get out of 5th gear). Even when I came to a complete stop I was still in 5th gear and thus the engine had to work harder to accelerate from a dead stop. I'm guessing this was some sort of fail safe mode to protect the transmission. When I turned off the car and turned it back on all my gears were back. The car also seems to be delayed when engaging reverse. When I put the vehicle in reverse, as I'm holding the brake down after a couple of seconds the car jerks. I took it to an Autozone and they gave me an engine code reading of P0780 and the print out stated that the likely issue was related a solenoid. I don't have the print out in front of me so I'm going off of memory. I honestly have no idea what a solenoid is. Any idea's price wise of what I'm looking at? Or has anyone else experienced a similar issue that can point me in the right direction? Unfortunately, my extended warranty expired at 75k miles, so just recently. Nissan wants 89.95 to diagnose the issue for me. Worth it at this point, or should I just go a transmission shop? You can probably tell by all my questions that this is my first car that I've owned. Any advice regarding my car problems would be greatly appreciated.
I apologize for the long message everyone, but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible to anyone out there who might be able to help me. Thanks for your time.
