Default AUTO STARTER & Alarm!

Okay, I talk with my coworker a lot about cars and I'm kind of a skeptic (I like to question validity).

I tell him that I want to get an auto-starter for my car because I hate running outside during winter, jumping in the car to turn it on, and running back in the house. An auto-starter would solve all that.

My coworker tells me that an auto-starter installed in a manual transmission car might/will affect how my car reacts when shifting gears....something along the lines of, it f**ks with your gears and how it shifts.

This true? I'm interested in getting a car starter and alarm since my car doesn't have an impact sensor (I don't think it has one!..I tried hitting my car and pushing it around to see if the alarm goes off after I lock it, but NOPE!).

Nope...not true.

The only issue, from what I remember is that some people park their manual car by leaving it in gear. When its started in gear, the car lurches forward.

Nearly a decade ago, there was a story about a kid getting killed when a manual car was auto started after being left in gear. Allegedly the car hit em.

After that happened, I couldn't get an installer anywhere to do autostart in my 5 speed G20. I had to do it myself, because they were all afraid of liability issues.

If you like to leave your car in gear when you park, auto start is not for you.

...I'm mobile.

Exactly. They just have to bypass the whatever it is that prevents the car from starting without the clutch engaged.

Thatd be quite a habit to break too if your used to just shutting it off in gear. But could be broken... have to make sure your ebrake is nice and tight and good to go!

^Yep...most often I've seen a switch that is under the clutch pedal arm. There were two wires that went to the switch, and when you step on the clutch...the button/switch gets pushed in, and it completes a circuit (connecting the two wires) that allows the car to be started.

- To bypass that, all I did was permanently connect the two wires together.

Yeah...one of the greatest results too.

So, basically...the auto-start can be added to a manual car, but you will prolly be hard pressed to find an installer willing to do it.

If your handy with tools, and patient at all...I promise, its a job you can do yourself. Im speaking from experience.
