Bad Bose Amp
My Bose amp won't work in cold weather. In the mornings it will just cut on and off repeatedly. Seemingly when it gets warm enough, after about 20-30 minutes it will stay on. I've read that it's caused by bad capacitors or something. Anyways, my questions are as follows:
1. Has anyone else experienced this with the Bose amp? I searched online and could find no mention of anyone else experiencing this with a Bose amp.
2. Anyone know the price of a new Bose amp for the '07 Altima? I found one on eBay for $100 and a 90 day warranty. I'm pretty sure it was a good buy. I called one dealer and asked a guy in the parts department. I don't think he knew what he was talking about though. First he tried telling me that the amp was in the radio, then he said the speakers had amps built in. Then when I explained that I was physically looking at the amp, he said it cost $850. That price wouldn't surprise me, but I'm just wondering how accurate it is since the guy I talked to seemed like an idiot.

I don't have Bose in my Altima unfortunately, but my aunt does. She called two dealerships to see what the price would be to replace it and she was quoted $199 and $149; she does have an '05 though. But i'd still say that's all you should pay. The guy who said $850 must have not known what he was talking about because the entire Bose system in an Altima is $1,100.

Thanks for checking. Yeah, I thought his "quote" was a little high. But after my brother was quoted a price of $1700 to replace the amp in his BMW 745 nothing surprises me! Hopefully my new amp won't have the same issue when I get it.

3. Folks - I drive a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 with the factory installed Bose system. I experienced loss of sound last winter when the outside temps dropped to around 30 degrees. It lasted about a month and then they started working again for about 9 or 10 months. Then, the weather got cold again the following winter and the speakers died on me again. I spoke to some pros and was told it was probably bad solder connections in the amplifier, due to extreme changes in temperature. The solution - I found a replacement amp on EBAY for $32.00 (yeah, it was a steal). I was able to remove the old one by climbing into my trunk and removing the small screws on either side of the amplifier mounting plates (using a star socket), keeping the two mounting brackets in place. I carefully pressed the replacement amp into the existing mounting brackets and hooked up the two wire connections and...problem solved!

I would like to chime in on this. Wether it is a altima nissan infiniti or other car, bose head units and amps seem to be their weak points. Always failing so if it is not covered by warranty and you feel that this may happen again "very well may" I would think about upgrading. It may cost a lot more but in the long run it would be worth it both for sound quality and for reliability.

yeah as far as sound quality, the bose amp doesn't have or produce good frequencies, but it's ok when paired with the bose speakers. Better to go with an aftermarket amp if you don't want to hassle with replacing everything else.

You will just have to replace the speakers if you add new amps as a new amp can not run at what ohms the bose speakers are. Not to mention the built in crossovers of the bose amps.

I was glad that my 09 2.5 didn't come with the bose when I bought it because I knew how much trouble it'd be to replace everything with aftermarket...would cost me more in labor

Not only that but when you have the nav you can not just pull everything, you have to keep the nav because of the integration with climate controls and such. Lucky for most with that problem the MS8 is a very good tool.

I have an 06 SER with the bose system stock, for $100 I'd sell you my amp, and it is in %100 working condition, currently it is only powering my front speakers, I have my rear door speakers disconnected and I swapped my rear deck out for my own 6X9's that have their own amp. I would need $100 for it, as that's how much I can get new front speakers and an amp to power them for. At that point my bose amp will be sitting in my trunk not being used, lol. and yes that's my plan in the long run (to not have the bose amp in the car at all).
As for if the 06 Bose amp is the same as the 4th gen's, I'm not sure, someone else would have to chime in.
