Everyone is going to have a preferred product, everyone is going to have a different technique and everyone is going to have an opinion.

This is just how everything works we could go on for days and months and the ins and outs of products the good and the bad.

Simply put OP you have to find what works for you. I did things for a few years one way and not even knowing anything about swirl marks back when i started.

Today I do things like this.

Here are some simple steps to avoid swirls.

Use a good quality wash mit!

Use a two bucket wash system with one wash and one rinse. With grit guards in the bottom of at least the rinse bucket.

Wash one panel of the car at a time and avoid going any further than halfway down the door panels until that is the last thing to do.

Use a foam gun or a waterless wash after you rinse off the car before you start actually washing the car. This will help lube the surface and float dirt away with ease.

DO NOT wipe down a car with any more than very very light dust this is like sand paper to a car for swirls.

Use air to dry off your car. The less you touch your pain the nicer it will stay.

Stay away from car washes especially ones with brushes. The touch less ones are ok in the winter as long as there is no one at the end to dry down your car!

Hope this helps!

thanks
do you do this at your house if so how do you dry with air?
the one self car wash by me has a hand held air dry machine. i do my car myself and if there is something i can use i would prefer that option.
right now i use a new microfiber towel, lightly damp every time i dry my car and that seems to work for swirls and keeps from water spots

Leaf blower, that's inventive! I've never been a big fan of using air to get the car dry. It always seems to leave water spots for me as well, but I can see how it's better for the cars finish. I really like the two bucket system though. That's a system I'm going to start using.

I use the leaf blower for 90% if the water than depending on what I am doing to the car next if I am claying I leave the remaining water on, if I am just washing or waxing an already good surface than I spray the surface down with detail spray and dry off the remaining water. However that heated air dryer removes like 99.9% if water.

It is ok to wash your car weekly, when I did not have college I washed my every other day. They question is not is it bad for the paint but what process are you using to wash your car?

If you are using a single wash bucket with a rag and dish soap heck ya it is bad for the paint!!!

If you use a two bucket wash with grit guards and a good wash mit with good car wash. Yes you will be ok.

I use this car wash soap that I got at Target and use this type of microfiber mitt to wash it with. Then I use microfiber towels to wipe it down. Is it normal to see scracthes in the paint when it's in the sun. I thought it was from washing it too much.
