Default CarMax vs. Dealerships

Has anyone experienced buying from CarMax? I went to look at Nissans the other day at the dealership and wasn't impressed with the sales guys. I was thinking of checking out a CarMax dealer. Advise...

I used to work for CarMax in Kansas City. It is a well taught and well run machine. They have all sorts of corporate rules as far as what will and wont end up on the lot. Out of three loads of cars that I bought, only 6 went to the front lot. Things like previous paint, electronic issues etc kept a lot of my cars off of the lot. They were great cars and could be found on just about any one else's car lot, but were not considered to be "CarMax" cars.

They are a used car lot. Although a fairly decent one, you will still want to spend some time looking over any vehicle that you have an intrest in.

I like dealerships, but I've never done the Carmax thing. There are certain perks that you get at dealerships that you wouldn't get just anywhere.

I went with CarMax and enjoyed my experience. I would suggest it to anyone. Maybe if I get a brand new car I will try the dealerships.

DAMN! yeah they are a total rip. first of all every car on their lot is about 2-3 k over priced, and they tell you straight up they do not negotiate - but they tried to give $2500 for my 98 Maxima. i just laughed and said i would get back to them.

what makes it even worse - they were sellin a 97 max that was the base model for $9,900. so my car was newer, a higher trim level, had lower miles and looked like it had been taken care of like an only child compared to the other.

just let it be known that they will rip you off so STAY AWAY FROM CARMAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!
