Default How to change the drive belt on a Altima 2005?

Hi everybody! I new in the forum.

I'm a owner of 2005 Altima 3.5 l. I like to change the drive belt. What I understand is the right procedure to take away the splash guard in right front wheel house to access the belt from the wheel side. Then you shall losen the tension pulley nut and the tension screw to give slack to the belt. After installing the new belt shall the belt tension be adjusted accordingly to the specs for a new belt..

Has anyone done this and is there something I need to know about before I start.

Thank you!

There should be a tensioner that will place the correct amount of tension on the belt once you put everything back together.

I did it. It kicked my ass. Not hard to get to, just adjusting the belt. Too loose...too tight...too loose...and so on. These belts don't fall into the ol' 1/2" play. Since they're a shorter belt, the play should be about 1/8". I had it too tight & it smoked. Then it was too loose and it squealed.

The tensioner pulley has a 14mm adjustment nut in the engine bay. It's reverse threaded, so when you loosen the tension, it's actually tightening the nut, which pulls the belt pulley higher, taking tension off of the belt. I had to replace mine because it was so corroded it sheared the bolt. It was about $35 or so for the parts.

You have to loosen the 14mm nut holding the pulley on and slide it up to take the belt off. Once you install the new belt, pull the pulley back down, tighten it and then loosen it just a hair. Then go up top and tighten the adjustment nut until the belt is tight. Once it's tight, go back underneath and tighten the pulley nut. That's it. Sounds easy, but that's the part that whooped me. Couldn't find the sweet spot, so I gave up and had a shop adjust it.
