Default code p0720 & p1574

Hi, got a 2003 Altima 2.5S I have been getting these codes consistently after I experience my problem. My car runs fine for most of my drive home from work but once I get off the freeway about a 20 mile drive @ 75mph the last part of my drive is on side streets my car will suddenly rev up to redline or sometimes rev up, but it is as if the car is in neutral which it is not. Most of the time I can turn off the car restart it and then the problem seems to go away. I have around 78k miles on the car. Also it seems that this problem only happens when it is hot out, I live in Phoenix so it happens during the summer 105+ deg. Has anyone else had a similar issue with their car, or does anyone know what the problem is. When the problem happens and the check engine light goes on the cruise control no longer works, the cruise light is blinking. Last year in an attempt to fix the issue I ended up replacing the VSS sensor, then the summer was over it got cooler and the problem went away until appearing again a few months ago. Does anyone have any clue on what the issue may be

any help would be greatly appreciated

Locate the A/T Revolution sensor and the A/T Turbine Revolution sensor on the back end of the transmission. Both connectors are Black in color and if swapped will cause the codes to set and the transmission may not upshift. The A/T revolution sensor is the one closer to the end of the transmission (on the end of the case). The correct wire colors on the A/T revolution sensor are Red/Yellow, White and Black. The correct color wires at the A/T turbine revolution sensor are Red/Yellow, Green and Black.

I'm reviving this thread because I'm having the exact same problem. I've seen a few people post the exact same symptoms and have seen a few people offer sugguestions, but I have never seen ayone post exactly what is the fix. Car runs great for 30-40 miles then the cruise will kick off. Cruise and set light then flash. At this point sometimes the car will not shift out of 1st after I stop at a light. If I turn the car off for a few minutes it resets and works. Also seems to be worse when the weather is hot. It's throwing codes 0720 and 1574, both speed sensor codes. I have replaced the speed sensor and the revolution sensor. I did replace these with off brand and not OEM, now reading these could be defective. Does someone have knowledge on this?

It's likely one of the two sensors is defective or damaged in some way. Did you install these sensors yourself? If you did, you'll know they are a pain to get to to check for a damaged pin, but it's worth a look. You should also be looking for an open circuit (loss of ground). I don't think there's any question these codes are related to these two sensors.

Thanks for the reply. I did not install them. My father in law has a shop so I let him do it because he has lifts, but he can't seem to figure it out. Do you know where on the car these are grounded? Maybe the ground is loose. If not, I guess I'll need to replace the sensors again with OEM parts.

Keep in mind I'm not a mechanic...The sensors will have a pigtail that plugs into them. The pigtail might need to be replaced but your father-in-law's shop should be able to test the wiring, or at the very least inspect the terminals on the sensor itself.
