Everything on this 95 GXE I just bought works except the cruise control. The ON button lights up but the steering wheel controls don't work. Can anyone tell me how to troubleshoot this? Would this maybe be related to my before-mentioned airbag light (something to do with the pass-through circuit in the steering column)? Thanks.

Have you checked to see if the cruise control wire/cord is still hooked to the throttle body.

Yeah, the cable is still hooked up. I decided to save myself a lot of guessing and possibly wasting money...a buddy of mine is checking the car at his import shop as a favor.
I also went and stripped a similar car today that was going to the crusher. Got all the cruise components and sensors, relays, etc. under the hood. Should save me some $$$.

dude on the first gen they have a green stopper thing. thats what makes it turn on. they also have one for the breaks. there a 1.50 at the dealer.
