DIY Bluetooth and a question for everyone
Hopefully anyone that has a bluetooth phone or MP3 player can do this so it works. I went through a lot of wasted time searching around and bought the wrong things at first, so hope this helps someone.
As most people do, I'm sure, I love the aux jack on my Altima (2008 2.5 SL, convenience + package), but I hate having wires dangling all over the place. I also wanted bluetooth integration, as my new phone (Samsung Behold) and my MP3 player (Samsung P2) can stream music wirelessly over bluetooth, but most bluetooth adapters you'll find are transmitters, not receivers. Most male to male aux cables also have a long cable (or are retractable), which I was trying to avoid, and there are NO direct male to male connectors available, so I made my own. I just wanted my bluetooth adapter to stick out of the aux port without hanging down, and I didn't want to replace the factory radio.
Here's what you need:
- 2 male 3.5 mm aux jacks from Radio Shack (2 come in a little plastic package, they screw into the housing, but you don't need the housing) ($3.99)
- MBR-100 Sony Ericsson MBR-100 Bluetooth Music Receiver (sends the bluetooth signal from your MP3 player to whatever it's plugged into) ($40.00)
- A soldering iron and solder
- some hard plastic tubing to wrap in between the two connectors once you solder them, or even some electrical tape.
I went and bought the 3.5 mm ends from Radio Shack and soldered them together. This is really really simple to do. There are three connectors on each side that need to be soldered to the corresponding connector on the other side. It works without having to use any speaker wire at all, just connect them directly. They're different sizes, so it's not hard to match them up, and the ones from Radio shack spin around if you twist the connectors, so you can match them up. I had some hard plastic tubing laying around that fit, so I split it down the middle after I was done soldering the two male ends together, and wrapped it around, and crazy glued it shut. Worked perfectly. Now I plug my bluetooth receiver into the connector that I made and plug that directly into the aux port.

The problem is, this thing sticks out about 6-8 inches out of the port, and eventually my fat clumsy fist will knock it sideways, either cracking the bluetooth or messing up the aux input on the dash.
Is there a way to somehow tap into the auxiliary jack from BEHIND the radio, so that I can run a wire down to the compartment under the radio and have the bluetooth receiver there, so there are no wires showing, AND it's also powered all the time by the cigarette lighter? I tried posting pictures of everything, but it won't let me.
Here are the images (just copy and paste and add an H at the beginning of the link):
