Default How do you save money / make more money?

I'm just curious as to what everyone's tips are for saving money and/or making more money.

The biggest one that helped me was teaching myself to cook. My girl and I eat healthier and spend way less money than going out to restaurants.

Set yourself up a budget and stick to it. It's good to see how much money you really need to set aside for paying your bills. You have to be honest about what you spend. My families largest expense for example, aside from my mortgage, is groceries. It took a long time to come to terms with just how much money you need from day to day. Setting yourself up a good, honest budget will let you see how much money you have left over and out of that you can start putting a little aside from each paycheck. It doesn't have to be much. Every paycheck last year we put aside $40 and came out with enough money to pay for a winter vacation. This year we are going to put aside $80 to pay for our summer vacation. You don't have to make large sums of money to save. You just have to know how to use what you have. If you find out that your job is not giving you enough to put anything aside and there is no room for advancement, it might be time to start looking elsewhere.

I got married, thats how I save money...

Seriously, she does all the saving. We have 6 bank accounts, 1 joint checking, 1 joint saving, my personal checking, my personal savings, her personal checking and her personal savings...

each paycheck we each put the an agreed upon amount into the joint checking, this pays all joint bills (utilities, mortgage, cars, insurance, etc...) except our individual credit cards. What's left from our checks after we put the agreed upon amount in the joint account is left in our personal checking account for us to pay our individual credit cards, put in our personal savings, or use to eat out for lunch, gas for the car, etc...whatever we want.

What's left over in the joint account after that months bills goes to the joint savings. But how I save money is she is now putting less of her check into the joint checking and putting more into her personal savings, and we are using that as our savings account, because I can't save money for nothing. She is the saver, I am the spender, so yea, getting married is actually saving me money.

And now we are two months out from her having our first child, so we are saving like crazy, yet I am spending like crazy, because I know once the baby gets here all my extra money is GONE...

Having a kid will change your perspective on everything, including finances. It's amazing how much money you sink into raising them. Totally worth it of course.

Thats what I hear. That's the reason I am trying to get all my modding done before my little girl gets here, because I know I will be spending all my money on her, because it will be worth it. So, while I still have the money and the desire to mod out the car, I am doing it, much to my wifes chagrin.

yeah kids are definitely expensive. my son is only 8 months old and i dont even want to know how many thousands me and the wife spent on him already. the price of formula is rediculous. but i wouldnt change it for anything, the first time my son smiled at me because he recognized who i was was amazing.

Being that I am only 20, I hope not to have a kid till Im married much later on. People here in Mississippi tend to have kids at 15 years old....its scary. My gf has to practically raise her 2 nieces but she loves it!

I was the same age, 27. I think back to when I was 20, (really not that long ago), you're right in that it seems too young, but put in the situation I think you would grow up in a hurry.

Yea, I hear they are expensive so I am enjoying the money while it's still available.

Yes you would grow in a hurry alright. My ex was 16 when she had her first child but I dont think she grew up cause now she has 3 at 19 years old. I feel bad for her but at least it made her get a job. My best advice is. Make a life for yourself before you make another
