Hey guys, first post, but I've read a bunch of threads and it seems like a pretty knowledgable forum... Anyways, I was trying to replace my headlight bulbs a while back and the little metal spring thing snapped in two pieces in my hand. I have just gone without a left side headlight but now I'm planning a road trip in a few weeks and it'd be nice to have the headlights at 100% before driving through the dark deserts at night. lol
Anyways, does anyone have a source for the clip? The dealer wants to sell me a new entire headlight for $440+... It's a 2003 Altima 3.5 if that matter. Thanks!

Hi guys,

I have a 2001 Altime (185,000 milage). I am on a long road trip now (1,000 miles). I found out that my car is consuming oil. The oil level was low and the rear bumper where muffler is was kind of black. Now, the engine is knoking especially when I start it and give a little gas.

I never had any issues before. I always do the maintainance on time. Before my trip, I changed the spark plugs and wires, all belts, and right axel. I took it to a mechanic and he said something was wrong inside the engine. Please advise. Thank you.

Regards,
Sam

I am new to the forum and already need your big help. This morning was trying to start my car and it would not start. Can't go to the dealer cause my warranty is gone.I went online check couple responses and they all say "Brake switch" so I bought one and replaced it and nothing happened. The car is trying to crank but won't start.Starter is good, key is good, foot pedal is on and everything seems normal. Already got myself a different fuse boxes( inside and outside 1&2) and trying to swith it to see if that might be an issue.

I'm getting ready to buy some new rubber for my altima. I've already decided on the tire, its the continental extreme contact DW. I'm trying to decide what size to go with...

The stock size on an 18x8 SE-R wheel is 225/45/18. This tire is listed for a 7-8.5" wheel, has a 8.9" section width, and has a 26" O.D. (overall diameter) list price: $158 each

I'm also considering these sizes in the same tire..

235/45/18. Listed for a 7.5-9" wheel, has a 9.3" section width, and a 26.3" O.D. This tire is $175

Also considering a 245/40/18. Listed for a 8-9.5" wheel, has a 9.8" section width, and a 25.7" O.D. This tire is $188

I'm not sure how much the .3" height difference will change the speedo/odometer readings, but I'm pretty sure that the difference i width will improve traction some, especially with the 245 tire option.

I'm just curious to see whether you guys think it'd be smart to uprage tire size a bit to improve traction. The price of the tire isn't a huge deal, I get a really good discount on tirrs from NTB, where I work.

When I first got the car, it was not running. The car wouldn't start. All that would happen is all the lights on the dash turn on and that't it. I didn't fix the problem and just let the car sit. Now the car won't open. The doors won't open with the key or remote. The trunk won't open as well. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
Btw my uncle gave me the car as a gift so i wouldn't mind investing some money in it.

It is a 1996 Altima 5pd

I was kind of reluctant to buy this somewhat, as it had some issues.

What am curious about is a few mechanical issues I am having.

There is a CEL: One for IAC and one for knock sensor.

Now I don't know if this is true, but the own described to me why the IAC was going off.

He said that in the accident that the altima received, got the air box really good. So the IAC got damaged he claimed, I can see the box is pretty f'ed up, I don't know where the IAC is located on a altima though.

The other CEL was the knock sensor, now this one I am more worried about, because there is a clicking sound:

When the vehicle warms up, it has a mediocre loudness clicking sound at the timing chain/pulley side of the engine. I didn't have anyone there to help me diagnose it on the spot, so I called a friend to have him listen to it. He claimed that if the tensioner is getting deteriorated or already is that it will make that clicking noise when the oil gets thin from warming up.

Does anyone else agree with this?

I took a leap of faith on purchased a 1996 Altima 5spd.

It had a lot wrong with it; body damage, weird clicking noise when car warmed up(timing chain tensioner I think), rust, needs tires, some sensors are bad.

I got it for 750 so I didn't think it was too bad for a running vehicle.

looking forward to learning about this engine and the rest of the vehicle, as well as getting to know you guys

Bought a 2006 altima sl and after a day or two I noticesd a sticker under the hood that said this engine has been replaced by nissan and has an extended 100k mile warranty I was just wondering if there was any chance it could have been replaced with a v6. And also pros and cons for this situation thanks guys

4 recalls I know of and hear people taking about.
Car has 100k Miles on it. 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 SE Sedan. Also I was told by my brother that it's a 2002. Is there a way to check the year of the car?

Pre CAT falling apart and releasing material into engine.

Butterfly screws falling into engine.

Crank posistion sensor

Cam Posistion sensor

I think the CAM and the CRANK sensors are fine but what are the symptoms of when 1 or both are failing? Can these 2 cause permanent engine damage if they do go bad?

Is it safe to say that if the Pre CAT and the Butterfly screws didn't go bad by now that it's okay not to mess with it? Or should I just grab a aftermarket exhaust piece to do away with the Pre CAT and check the butterfly screws and loctite them?

Thanks again,

I just got a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 SE and noticed that the "rubber boot" in the aircleaner...

I just got a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 SE and noticed that the "rubber boot" in the aircleaner assembly should have a fitting to put a hose on there, it is broken off and there is just a hole there and the hose is missing too.

When I opened the engine bay for the first time I heard a slight whistling sound coming from the top of the engine and it has a hard plastic "nipple" to fit a hose on there. Is there supposed to be a hose going from my aircleaner part(16576P) fitting to the hard plastic fitting on top on the engine?

Type in...
"165 Air Cleaner 2002 altima" in GOOGLE
It should be the top first listing and the company is CourtesyParts.
This will give you a schematic to help you understand what I mean.

Im getting part 16576P at a local dealer.

But I cant find the hose that I think goes there.

Also what is the function of the hose going from the air intake to the top of the engine area? What damage can this do to my car with the hose missing and the air intake "boot" having a exposed hole in it?

Thanks,
