I normally park my car so that the rear is facing me when I walk to it. I NEVER walk around the car to see that it is okay. Well, this morning I got a nice flippin' surprise when, for the first time in a about a week, I'm walking toward the front on the car only to notice that someone has actually hit me. I didn't want to believe what I was seeing. I rubbed my hand across the damage and was happy to find out that the white paint (mixed with dirt) came right off. Now I am left with a lot of scratches. My paint has been taken off and you can see the black plastic underneath so it kinda blends with the dark slate color of the car. The damage is really not that bad (most won't even notice it), but that fact that I will always know it is there and the fact that I have only made 2 payments has me thinking that I need to call my insurance agent and get it repaired so the car continues to look fresh and new. I thought about touch up paint, but there are too many big and wide scratches for that ... can't help but thinking I need to get over it. :(

I have learned a valuable lesson ... do a little walk around.

2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE and the only two engine mods that I have done are the "Nismo CAI" and the "AT Grounding Kit". I started to notice my idle dropping below 700 to around 500ish makn it shake but then goes back up. It does this when I'm sitting at a light or something. This morning my engine light comes on, I scan it and get P1402. I cant get much info on it except that its "EGR" related. Now, does any1 know what steps I should take to figure this out. Or perhaps I should bring it to my dealer as I'm under warranty and this "might" be covered. Any help would be great, thanks!

Hey. I finally ventured into new territory, as I have predominantly been a Lincoln & Cadillac guy all my life (thus the name). My parents got themselves an 08 Altima SL 2.5 CVT. Since I don't know jack about Nissans but I know there is a wealth of information on these message boards, I figured I'd drop by to do some learning.

Oh yeah, and, thus far, I am thoroughly impressed with this car. Fit and finish is great, roadholding is great, ride quality is beyond what I expected, and it overall feels like a much nicer car than I would have ever thought.

Yet another problem has occurred. My MPG avg. display is off by 7mpg. I thought no big deal, take it to the dealer have them do their thing, take it back. NO. I was there for over 2 hours. I brought it to the dealer and he, the service rep, said it was because i had low tire pressure. HUH? That doesn't even make sense. Maybe he should do more WORK and less EATING. He was a lazy, fat, idiot who obviously didn't care about anything but himself. So i got the manager out, told him about the fat guy, then asked him to look at my car; he said he would fix it. So he "fixed it". I wonder if by fixing it he meant HOLDING IT FOR THIRTY MINUTES AND GIVING IT BACK TO ME. He didn't TOUCH my car. I will be calling Nissan and reporting this dealer. I am seriously considering giving up on the car and trading it in for an Accord. This is sickening. My car is only FIVE MONTHS OLD. I know warranty covers this, but it is the constant trips back to the dealer. I have to go back for their mistakes. Thank god i got such a good deal on my car. over 1k below invoice. I won't lose "that much" with the trade. I haven't yet decided, but i am VERY tempted to do the trade.

I'm going to be replacing calipers, rotors, and brake pads on all 4 wheels and also throwing on a full new exhuast within the next 2 weeks. Does anyone have any recommendations on what type of exhaust would sound good on my car but at the same time not be super loud? Thanks guys.

From moveon.org

Yesterday was John McCain's 72nd birthday. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

Huh?

Who is Sarah Palin?

Here's some basic background:

She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.

Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.

She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.

Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.

She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.

She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.

How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.

This is information the American people need to see. Please take a moment to forward this email to your friends and family.

We also asked Alaska MoveOn members what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here's a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

So Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She's a global warming denier who shares John McCain's commitment to Big Oil. And she's dramatically inexperienced.

In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he's made a very dangerous decision for our country.

We are getting hit pretty bad. It is only a category one now. New Orleans levees are already overflowing again. One of our members (Kalon) lives there and I hope he evacuated. So far over here, we have lost power once (for about 30 seconds). A lot of people have evacuated to my area so I'm assuming I will be OK. It is getting worse. Our fence blew down and so have a lot of branches from the trees in our backyard. Other than that, nothing major. Thank god for laptops! :D
We don't have a generator but I don't think the storm will be getting much worse so it isn't a big deal. The hurricane is exciting though. :)

Hey Everyone, I am a new member to this forum. My car is a 2004 Altima SE. Only mod is replacing the rear cat w/ a new y-pipe. Hoping to get more done soon.

My question is on brakes. I am a little hard on my brakes. I have already gone through two sets of front rotors on my car. I don't like to machine them I'd rather have new. I also own a 1996 Nissan Maxima which I have had since new. To this day I have never had to replace the front rotors due to pulsations in the pedal. And I have been just as hard on those brakes.

I have heard you can install Maxima brakes on the Altima. Is this true? Not just Pads and rotors but the calipers also.

Hi, got a 2003 Altima 2.5S I have been getting these codes consistently after I experience my problem. My car runs fine for most of my drive home from work but once I get off the freeway about a 20 mile drive @ 75mph the last part of my drive is on side streets my car will suddenly rev up to redline or sometimes rev up, but it is as if the car is in neutral which it is not. Most of the time I can turn off the car restart it and then the problem seems to go away. I have around 78k miles on the car. Also it seems that this problem only happens when it is hot out, I live in Phoenix so it happens during the summer 105+ deg. Has anyone else had a similar issue with their car, or does anyone know what the problem is. When the problem happens and the check engine light goes on the cruise control no longer works, the cruise light is blinking. Last year in an attempt to fix the issue I ended up replacing the VSS sensor, then the summer was over it got cooler and the problem went away until appearing again a few months ago. Does anyone have any clue on what the issue may be

any help would be greatly appreciated

so yeah some bad news with my 2007 altima. IT DIED! I was driving and all of a sudden my steering wheel locked up, gas wasnt working at all and the engine just died! I managed to restart it but everytime I did the engine was revving and jerking the car and it died again. The car was no longer able to Idle. I was able to start it and step on the gas, it was the only way to get it moving, if i pressed gas lightly it would die again. So I had to floor it to get her to move. Luckily I happen to be a block away from the dealership I bought her at. So I managed to get here to the dealer. Now im at home waiting for the dealer to call me and give me the bad news. :( sucks so bad! If its goin be there for a day I hope they can give me a loaner car because I got school tommorow:(

I was leary about the CVT tranny, :confused:I hope what I am experiencing is normal for one. My 2.5S w/ CVT ony has 3500 miles, so far, so I am still learning.

My tranny only seems to freewheel below 15mph. I get engine breaking at higher speeds unless I keep my foot on the gas. Is no coasting at higher speeds normal? I see that if I am going downhill or grade (with my foot off the gas) between 45 and 60mph the tranny will actually down-shift and run the engine rpm up to ~3K RPM and slow the car down. It doesn't take much of a downhill slope for this to happen. If i put the car in neutral then she gains speed. Yeah baby...free momentum, no gas required.

This doesn't seem right to me and I would think it is NOT a fuel effecient way of operating.

Can someone with more CVT experience clue me in to what is normal with these trannies?
