I don't have to worry about the pre-cat problem because the guy already burned up his oil and threw a rod.
The motors coming out, I hope I can find the needed info here to help me rebuild/replace. It is unlikely the block is good.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to altima forums and this is my first post.

I have an automatic transmission 2006 Altima SE-R. I have 80,000 miles on the vehicle. About a week ago my transmission started to slip or at least give indications that it is slipping. When driving at highway speeds (approx 70mph) the engine would suddenly rev high as if it had slipped out of gear and then would jerk the vehicle when it dropped back into gear. I believe the jerk of the vehicle is due to the vehicle dropping back into gear at such high RPM's. It has done this about 8 or 9 times in the past week. Well this morning driving to work it happened again and this time the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Additionally, I temporarily lost access to the lower gears on the transmission (when I went into manual shift mode regardless of the speed I could not get out of 5th gear). Even when I came to a complete stop I was still in 5th gear and thus the engine had to work harder to accelerate from a dead stop. I'm guessing this was some sort of fail safe mode to protect the transmission. When I turned off the car and turned it back on all my gears were back. The car also seems to be delayed when engaging reverse. When I put the vehicle in reverse, as I'm holding the brake down after a couple of seconds the car jerks. I took it to an Autozone and they gave me an engine code reading of P0780 and the print out stated that the likely issue was related a solenoid. I don't have the print out in front of me so I'm going off of memory. I honestly have no idea what a solenoid is. Any idea's price wise of what I'm looking at? Or has anyone else experienced a similar issue that can point me in the right direction? Unfortunately, my extended warranty expired at 75k miles, so just recently. Nissan wants 89.95 to diagnose the issue for me. Worth it at this point, or should I just go a transmission shop? You can probably tell by all my questions that this is my first car that I've owned. Any advice regarding my car problems would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize for the long message everyone, but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible to anyone out there who might be able to help me. Thanks for your time.

Hi guys !!

New here, I just register to get information about the Nissan Altima because I'm planning to buy this car next year (2.5S w/ CVT). I'm currently owning a great 2006 Ford Mustang (V6, red fire, manual) but my wife doesn't drive manual transmission and we'll need more room soon ;)

So I think I'll come here from time to time to ask questions about this car that seems very interesting (I didn't hear about CVT before but I'll go to the closest Nissan retailler next weekend to try this out!:D).

See u later !!

(sorry for the mistakes)

I went to play cards, and in the process of taking stuff into the building must have leaned something against the trunk open button. After I got inside, noticed the open trunk through a window, so went out and closed it. Later, while playing cards, I keep hearing a beep. Trying to place the source, I eventually removed the key from my pocket and found that the beep came from the intellikey! I went back outside, opened and closed the drivers side door (the car was locked before and after) and also opened and close the trunk again. This stopped the beep.

I asked the service department about this. They didn't think the key contained a sounding device. I re-read the manuals, nothing there.

So, what is up? Was the car merely feeling lonely and wanted a little attention? I just got it in late April. Any ideas?

Sometimes before you had to wiggle the shifter while in park because it wouldn't register that it was, do you think maybe the button is actually malfunctioning or broken internally?

Thanks for your help, I don't know what else to look for.

Test driving a 2010 Altima 2.5S with the premium audio package ([Digital BoseŽ audio system with AM/FM/CD and 4.3" color display and USB connectivity (iPodŽ-compatible)] my wife and I noticed something odd. Her iPhone 3GS with version 3.2.1 of iOS could be controlled from the Bose head unit via the USB connection. But my iPhone 3G that had just been upgraded to iOS version 4.0.1 only displayed a [1] on the display.

The Altima is our top choice right now and we really like the iPhone integration with the premium Bose radio (both USB for music and BlueTooth for phone). But we'd hate to find out after buying that the system isn't being kept up to date and becomes incompatible!

Does anyone have this audio setup or know where to look for more information? Thanks in advance!

I have a 2008 Altima 2.5SE that just doesn't like me.

Has anyone else had CVT problems where the CVT whines when hot and under load? I've been trying to research a problem where the CVT appears to overheat during extended driving, so far I haven't seen anyone else reporting this problem.

I drive quite a bit and it happens after the car is hot (30+ minutes of highway driving) and under load (going up a grade.) I've had quite a bad experience with this issue but I haven't seen anyone else complaining about this problem on the nets.

Hey everyone I have a 2009 Nissan altima coupe and felt like changing it up a little. First thing I want to do is change out the step light bulbs to Red LED's. I already found the one I want but i'm not sure if I should get the 90 degree beam or 120. What do you guys think from personal experience? Is 120 too wide? 90 too narrow? Thank you.

Hello, I recently was involved in a deer accident with my 03 Altima. I need to have some body work done and was wondering if it could be something I could do myself and how hard it would be. The most extensive work I have done body wise is removing the door panels to install speakers so I am somewhat a newb at this stuff.

The parts I would have to replace are the front left hand side fender panel and the left rear door. I would of course leave the painting to the pros. How hard can this be? Thanks!

New to this forum. Just bought a 2000 Altima for my twins. Gazillion miles on it and a ton of work to be done. Black (Maaco) paint with grey cloth interior. Nothing spectacular but they're happy as heck to have wheels.First, the kids will invest many, many hours of cleaning the shtuff out of it. They won't even get to drive until Christmas. ;) My son is looking forward to learning the basics of auto maintenance from dear old dad. This will start soon.
