Default Getting an '08 2.5S soon...

Hey everyone. New to these forums here. So I will be getting a new Altima pretty soon here. I currently drive a Scion tC. It's a really nice little car but I need a 4 door (getting married). So as soon as I sell my Scion I will be getting myself a black 2.5S.

I really want to get a 6 speed manual but I was at the dealer yesterday and they told me that they are very rare. The dealer actually checked the whole state of Washington and found none. So I drove an automatic and I must say that I was impressed with the CVT. It's got plenty of power. So anyway...that's my story. I test drove a new Accord right after the Altima and the Altima was by far the better car.

So I wanted to ask if anyone has driven both the manual and the CVT 2.5S. Is there a big difference between the two? I'm very used to driving a manual. I tested out the "fake" manual mode. It seemed fun.

Can't wait to get my Nissan! Anyone looking for a Scion tC?

Welcome to the forums! I think you will be happy with with the cvt. I have never driven a manual in the Altima but I know it has to be fun.

Hey thanks for the welcome.

Yeah I enjoyed the CVT in my test drive. I used to have a 95 Maxima 5 speed manual and man did I love that car. I still prefer a manual over an auto, but I won't complain with the CVT.

Welcome to the forums!!
I have the CVT and it can get annoying sometimes, but i use the shift mode when taking off then tap it back to CVT mode, so i dont have to wait for the engine to catch up with the RPMS. City driving is really nice with the CVT. I did also drive the 6SPD manual and it was pretty fun, but not as precise as i liked. I am very picky when it comes to manual trannys. The Accord was overall the better car IMO but i got a GREAT deal on an Altima. The manual on the Accord was great. But the Altima overall is a good CITY car. The Accord is more of a highway car because the engine is most fun at high RPMS.

Thanks for the input. The Accord I test drove was an automatic because I wanted to compare the similar transmissions. I could feel definitely the torque difference between the two in the city. I have a quote for a 2.5S with the convenience plus package of $20,900 before any negotiating. Hopefully my Scion sells soon so that I can get into an Altima.

Just updating here. I picked up my 2008 2.5S yesterday. I ended up trading in my Scion and they gave me $14,500 for it. I got the Altima for $18,600. After spending 4 hours at the dealership, I came out with my Super Black Altima. I don't have any of the packages...it's just the basic 2.5S. I'll get my own wheels later on and so some things to it to personalize it. I'm sure I'll be asking for suggestions for all you guys.

But yeah... it's a really nice car. Feels much different than driving my 2-door Scion. The Altima is just as quick and is just so smooth.

Thanks for all your input!

Yeah I'm gonna need some advice on how to keep the Super Black shined up. I should probably get one of those dusters huh?

Nice deal! I was about to say, i got my car for less than $20,900. I'm glad to see you got it for $18,600. Are you enjoying the car so far? Have you used the "SHIFT" mode?

I am definitely enjoying the car. It's just so smooth. I wasn't expecting the 2.5 to be as powerful as it is. I've fooled around with the "shift" mode a little. I've used it for engine braking. I'll take it out this weekend and see what I can do with it!

Isn't engine braking bad for the engine? ESP. when you didn't break the car in?

Haha. Yeah. It puts a lot of stress on the engine.
