Default Gold 3rd Gen in Ontario??? BEWARE!

This is taken from an article online

Drive a Nissan Altima? Police will be coming around and asking questions unless you give them a call.

Everyone in Ontario who owns a 2002 to 2006 model of the sedan will be contacted under an intense police investigation now under way to find the driver responsible for a deadly gas-and-dash theft.

“We will find you,” Peel Traffic Services Inspector Robert Orr said on Wednesday at a news conference at Peel Police headquarters in Brampton.

Hashem Atifeh Rad, 62, died from injuries after he struck his head on the road when he tried to prevent a motorist from driving away without paying, from a Mississauga Petro-Canada gas station on May 19.

Based on eye witness accounts, police believe the person was driving a 2002-2006 four-door, gold or beige coloured Nissan Altima.

“There are over 2,000 vehicles that match this suspect vehicle description registered in Ontario,” Orr said.

“Our investigators will be following up on each and every one of them.”

Investigators have already contacted some of the owners and ruled them out. They’re asking others to contact police.

“If you think you may be the driver, we encourage you to contact a lawyer and come forward,” Orr said.

Police also want anybody with information to call the Major Collision Bureau or anonymously call Crime Stoppers.

Det. Craig Wattier said police aren’t aware if the vehicle sustained any damage but warned that, even if the owner had it repainted, it won’t prevent them from finding him.

“We’re looking at every one of these vehicles that was registered as being beige or gold coloured,” Wattier said.

Waitter didn't know how long it would take to track all owners but said officers wouldn't stop until they discovered the person responsible.

Police said eyewitnesses also reported seeing the driver conceal his licence plates moments before arriving at the gas station on Southdown Rd. at Truscott Dr. at about 4:55 p.m.

Eyewitnesses also said the vehicle was last seen heading east on the Queen Elizabeth Way.

The driver is described as being a black man, about 20 to 30 years of age.

Peel Regional Police are looking for a Nissan Altima in connection with a gas-and-dash incident that resulted in the death of a Mississauga gas station attendant.

Hashem Atifeh Rad, 62, died May 19 while trying to stop a driver from fleeing a Petro-Canada station on Southdown Road near the Queen Elizabeth Way. Police say the man tried to leave without paying for $75 worth of gas.

Rad was dragged under the car and later died in hospital.
Insp. Robert Orr said police are looking for a beige Nissan Altima with a model year between 2002 and 2006. The driver is described as a black male between 20 and 30 years old.
"This driver was observed by witnesses in the area concealing his licence plates just prior to the incident," said Orr.
Orr also urged the driver to turn themselves in to police.

“If you think you may be the driver we are looking for, we ask that you retain legal counsel and contact our investigators," he said. "We have devoted, and will continue to devote, considerable time and resources into bringing a resolution to this case. We will find you.”

About 2,000 cars in Ontario meet that description.

Police say they will be contacting GTA drivers whose cars fit that description so their name can be struck off a list of suspect vehicles.

Anonymous tips can also be made by calling Crime Stoppers.
