Default HID Legality

Does anyone know the legality of Blue HIDs in New York City?

Nowadays it seems like every 20 cars I see on the road, 1 will have blue HIDs and every 10 will have Super White. I have a 96 Altima GXE and I'm thinking about getting an HID kit from ebay (8000K Blue). A few of my friends have HID's but have it in Super White, and another bunch telling me not to go for the blue because they're "Illegal" and will get me ticketed. Then again, you see soooo many people using them. I highly doubt that they ALL had a problem with the pigs about it.

If you got Blue HIDs or know someone who does please fill me in on the legal issues.

Thanks.

PS. Also looking for Crystal headlights to accent the true essence of the HIDs.

Only emergency vehicles can have red or blue lights. This is what I was told by an LEO.

This is true.
So it IS illegal.
The blue lights are very BLUE too.
It is like tint, MOST people have illegal tint.
It isn't like police really care unless your headlights are blinding bright, aren't in the correct housing, and INCREDIBLY BLUE.

i think the headlights is a lot like the tint. I have the 5 percent tint and I dont have a problem with it in the city because the police does not care and wont stop you for that, when i go travel tho i ALWAYS get pulled over by the state trooper(texas) cuz they have that machine that goes on the window.

Dude, forget about the legality or illegality of the lights. Focus instead on how you're blinding other people with super bright lights. Two tips for you: it's daylight: turn them off and if you can see the next State from your driver's seat... they're too bright.
