Default Intelligent Key System HELP!

I could really use some help everyone, I have a 2009 Altima, and I went to move it out of my drive way and parked it, when I went back to the car to move it back, it wont start now. The light with a yellow square with a key inside it keeps coming on, I went through the user manual and it states that if the electrical system doesnt lock the wheels in place that you wont be able to start the car and that light will come on. Anybody know of a remedy for this issue? Nearest Nissan dealer is 40 miles away. I am mechanically incline, just unfamiliar with these cars. Thanks for any help.

I have not had this problem. You may try equivalent to the cure all for computers re-boot. In this case possible disconnect battery cables for 10 minutes or so, then see if it goes away. This is just a wild ass guess but I see no harm in trying it. I tired to google the issue but had no luck.

Also want to mention that the steering column will not lock up like its suppose to when you turn off the car, I could literally turn the steering wheel by hand if I wanted too.

My steering column never locks when the car is off and in park, don't think the newer Altima's has that. Have you tried Keysman's suggestion yet?

No it hasnt started yet. The steering column is suppose to lock up by the way, for mine. I called the dealer this morning, they are going to tow it in to the dealership and see whats up with it, they think that the car and keys are not communicating with each other. I will let you guys know what the problem is when I get it back. Keysman thanks for asking though.

My bad, Just read up on the steering locking system for the Altima's and it was removed in 2010 models and up.

Update!!! The dealership called me back and told me that its the Steering Lock Assembly that needs to be replaced, they told me they could have the part in 3 days. Then I called them back later, and they told me that the part is now on back order and I cant have my car repaired until the 1st WEEK OF JANUARY!! What the hell?!?!?!?! Anyone know if they have to give me loaner car since its all under warranty. The dealer told me to call the 1800 customer affairs number.

Hell Yes Nissan should give you the loaner. One of there charges as a manufacture is to have replacement parts available in a reasonable amount of time. I would say anything over 1-2 days is unreasonable . When you call the 800 number if they do not give you a loaner, ask to speak to their supervisor. Keep that tact until you get your loaner. The parts warrantied by Nissan is what put you in the situation. The dealer will probably not do anything on their own, without Nissan paying for it. But there is no way that Nissan should not give you a loaner. Hell at 4 weeks at $30 a day that is around $1200.00 if you had to rent one. I do this type of thing every day as far as dealing with manufactures, be firm with the facts. I an a case like this politeness and firmness gets you father than yelling and cursing,

I will be on tomorrow night, let me know what they say. If you get to sticking point with them ask them the question " What did I do wrong as a consumer who spent 25K on you product, to find my self in a situation where I have to take money put of my pocket to pay for a car to drive as they can not produce the part that failed under warranty. And that is the case why would I ever buy one of your products again or recommended someone else too? Do not give up!!!!

The original warranty does not cover loaner or rental cars, but some extended warranties do....But I agree that they should "Loan" you a car if you bought the car at that dealership....

I'm taking my car into Nissan dealership tomorrow to fix a window that doesn't like to roll up without help since the temperatures here have dropped to 0. They did offer me a Loaner car, while they fix the window.

Has anyone else had this problem with the windows?

After hearing of your problem with your locking system.... I'm really glad my car doesn't have it... I have always feared the steering lock would fail and lock while driving my previous cars.

UPDATE!!! I have called the 1800NISSAN1 number, do not use this Nissan number unless you have no other option. I have timed each time that I have called and been put on auto hold: 1st time 14 minutes, 2nd time 8 minutes, 3rd time 22 minutes, and the 4th time 32 minutes, and nobdy answered while I was hold. So i finally gave up and called the dealerhsip back and demanded to get a different number. The service guy gave a number of a direct contact to a Customer Affairs Manager. She is looking in to seeing if she can get a loaner. Also found out that this part is not just sitting in a warehouse, so they have to literally get all the sub parts from different companies to then make the actual part. And now they are telling me that they dont when I will get my car back, sometime in January is just a rough estimate. This is complete bull****. Come on Nissan, stop making me jump through so many hoops.

Klink,
By the way if the Steering lock system were to fail it would just not lock up. Its not like it would lock up while driving. They have had locking systems in cars forever, and when they fail, they just dont lock up.
