You are thinking about the AUX input. That is standard on all the 2007-2008 models. He has an '05.

Yeah, I'm in this spot too; I wish the stock stereo on the 2005 models (which otherwise sounds just fine, thankyouverymuch) had an iPod input. I hesitate to use one of those radio ones...

You can buy the cable anywhere.. It's a standard 2.5" male to male microphone banana plug.

I have spent a great deal of time researching and I have found that the 02-03 Altimas have an 8-pin DIN connector on the back of the head unit.

I have pulled the head unit and successfully activated AUX-mode on the head unit by applying a 12V voltage to pin 1

I have ordered a used iTrip FM transmitter ($10 to the house), simply for the iPod connector cable. I have mapped all the colors for the various wires. I am waiting on the delivery of a 8Pin DIN connector, and I will be able to complete my custom adapater. I will document and photo the process, but in a nutshell it will mimic this guys adapter (
http://www.mindspring.com/~pmbenn/iPod/cable.htm
), except mine will crossover to the 8-Pin DIN connector which is located on the back of my head unit and I need an manual switch to activate the AUX mode on the head unit.

I would like to eliminate the external manual switch to activate AUX mode, but I am not sure this is feasible. The only idea I have now is the iPod has a 3.3v output which could be used as a "trigger" during plug in, but unfortunately the iTrip does not have a lead for this on the iPod connector, and for me and most it is simply not practical or possible to build the tiny iPod connector. It will be a few weeks, as I am heading out of town for awhile this Friday, but I will report back.

I have looked into this and aside from calling the dealer to ask if the $330.00 Ipod adapter they sell will work for My 2006 S there is 2 ways to do it. ( I will call and ask them soon though)

There is NO Aux on Altimas with Stock NON SAT ready Systems! AKA Bose.
You can buy an FM transmitter like an Itrip (Really bad Alternative)
or
I found this:http://www.bizrate.com/caraccessorie...-pid295796832/

FMM 100A Fm Modulator. This hooks into your Antenna Jack in the back of your radio, then you buy and hook up a standard Aux Ipod jack to the Modulator.
When you Change your radio to the 2 preset stations (something like 89.1 ish) it cuts off the radio and goes to the Aux.

I have not bought or tried this, but if the dealer tells me what I think he will that No ipod adapter will work in my car I guess I will try this out.
