Question Jerky Tranny

Hi: My name is John and I am new to the forum. We bought a 2008 Altima new and love the car. The only problem we have is between 35 and 40 if you are holding it steady the tranny jerks. One dealer says this is normal and the other dealer said if it gets worst to bring it back. Is this natural or do I have a problem The car just turned ocer 16000 miles and it has done this since new. Any info will be great. Thanks

I agree with dealer # 2. When is your warranty up? I would keep a very close eye on it. There have been reports of CVT tranny failure, most commonly in 4 cyl.'s. I wouldn't take a chance on it to be honest.

The warranty is up in Aug. It is a 4 cyl.

If you are comfortable with the way the tranny is now, then I guess it's not an issue. If I were you, however, I would take it back and tell them it's getting worse, even if it isn't. I would hate to see you with a blown tranny and a big bill for the repairs.

Come to think of it, I think Nissan extended the warranty of the CVT. I'll see if I can dig up some info...

Welcome to AF, John! Congrats on your recent Altima purchase but sorry to hear that you are having issues with it. I'm sure you will find many articles on the forum helpful in finding what the issues are, if not post a new thread with description.

Post some pictures when you get a chance too!

I took it back to the dealer. They talked to Nissan. Nissan knows of the problem but has no fix for it yet.

Anyone get any more info on this? I have the same problem but just chalked it up to CVT. If it is feeling jerky I just give it more gas and the revs come up, jerking stops. Didn't know this was an issue until my dad was riding with me one day and he asked about it. I have had ATV's with CVT transmissions and sometimes the belt does not adjust exactly to the grade and you have to throttle it to get the belt to move to the right ratio....just thought it was kind of the same thing.
