Default Loud clunk noise

2010 Nissan Altima 3700 miles.

Every time in the morning when I drive off and turn left / right, car makes 1 loud clunk noise. It happens only once after the car has been parked for a long time.

However, today I heard it again while driving but just once.

Any ideas?

does it come from the front or the back?? I noticed that clunk sometimes in my 09, but it seems to come from the back. I suspect it might be my jack in the trunk well not secured and just rolling around.

I can't really say for sure, but if feels like it's coming from the front. Like I said, the car doesn't make this noise when driving, but rather on cold start.

I am taking it to the dealer on Tuesday to check this and several other minor but annoying noises.

Also my brakes are starting to make squeaky noise only after 3600 miles. Definitely something for Nissan to check out.

Well, I am not sure if it has anything to do with CVT. More likely suspension.
I like that car, but it has way too many issues for a brand new car. Brakes are squeaking, driver seat is squeaking as well, steering wheel is slightly off center, and the ride is bumpy as hell! (my '93 honda civic with leaking struts was much smoother)

My 2010 has done this as well. Not every morning, but a lot of mornings. Does it one time and that's it. I have stock struts, but Eibach springs, it did it before I had the springs installed to. I am not all that worried about it. If something were leaking or throwing a code, then sure I would worry.

But to go to the dealership about a sound we have no clue where its coming from, and they are going to have to keep your car for minimum 1 overnight stay to attempt to duplicate the problem, so they can properly diagnose and fix, that's just to much hassle for me for something that's nothing more than a small annoyance, 1 time every few days.

But if they do figure out where it's coming from, please do share, I would like to know just as a reference.

Default Thump

The vehicle stability control system and the anti-lock brake systems go through a self test at 15 to 20 mph. This happens only one time after a start up. The result is a Thump or vibration in the car. This is normal.

^^ Whether that is right or not we'll never know, but that is what the dealer is going to tell you for sure. It seems to be the general concensus with the dealers.

Well if u noticed between those speeds the car seems to hesitate and when it clunks it is smooth sailing from there

This happens to my car too every morning. It clunks once, then that's it. I'm pretty sure it's just normal but I'd like to know where it's coming from.

Default I have a similar issue.

I just purchased my new 2011 Altima three months ago, I put close to 4000 miles per month traveling and in the second week I had it I noticed a loud clunk clunk clunk coming from sounds like transmission, but I am not quite sure. It is quite disturbing and doesn't happen everyday that I drive it. Only every other day, I know this is not normal because my friend has a 2010 Altima with CVT as well and I drove it and there is no noise like this coming from her car. It sounds like an old car, never in my life had I ever thought a new car should sound like this. Took it to the dealer and of course oh that is normal. What? Normal? Come on......there is serious problems going on with these cars they don't want to admit! I wish I would have done my research! I plan on taking it back and will not stop driving it with the service guy until it happens! It literally sounds like knocking horrible and embarrassing when I have friends riding with me!

The car will make a clunk sound when it gets to exactly 20 mph. This is the test process for the antilock brake/ stability control system. It only happens on first start up. If this is what yours does it is normal. If something else take it to the dealer.

I've noticed this too in mine. It wasn't a surprise because I had the same clunk noise in my 05 so I'm not exactly sure it has anything to do with the CVT in newer models because the 05 didn't have CVT, that wasn't released in the Altima until 06. I can hear the clunk in my 11 but I could actually feel it sometimes in the pedal in the 05. Nissan couldn't explain it to me.
