Default new to altima, some questions.

Hi guys, I'm fairly new (as you can see) but found this site after a quick search on yahoo. After reading through some of the forums I got some of the answers I was looking for. So I signed up to see if you guys could help me some more.

Let me first start off by saying I just bought an altima a week ago. I was driving a boring 99 status that was fairly nice, but wasn't fast and wasn't very sporty. After doing some research I found a nice 2003 black altima SE. It has the super sport package and was in great condition with some minor blemishes. Nothing to stop me from buying it (I work at a carwash/detail shop, so most of these problems are already fixed) Anyways I've been looking around for some answers to questions I have. Hopefully You guys can help.

1. I love the power, but want to gain a bit more HP, Cold Air intake seems to be the way to go, but my question is what are standard HP gains. I see they say 12-15 HP, but on other forums and friends say I might only see 5 HP. That makes the purchase pointless, but then I came on here and saw that you get better gas mileage, so now my question is, what were common gains on HP and Gas Mileage with a coldair intake, and if there is any other upgrades that will produce more HP (I'm looking to gain maybe 20 HP) but are fairly cheap (under 500) and don't require 8 hours to install. I want to upgrade the car, but want to make it seem stock, going for a stealth look.

2. Leather seats, I was told this was pointless to even research, but I do know that all altimas from 2002-2005 have the same seat structure, and that It would more or less require me to pull the old seats out, disconnect the power connections and then put the new ones in and hook up the power connections. I've found seats for 500 bucks, but want to know if this is even worth it, Also any leather seats come with seat heaters, I imagine my car is semi prewired for them, so what else would I have to do to get heated seats?

3. Finally I saw in another fourm that someone paid to add TCS to the car. Mine does not have that. But I was just wondering if it worked good, I've tested TCS before on some toyota cars and it's nice, but sometimes it got in the way. Also I saw someone say they added it after they bought the car, is that possible?

anyways thanks for the help.

Well let me start off by welcoming you to the forum. I'm fairly new myself but I'm on here all the time as I am with any other forum for my current car (vwvortex.com when I had a VW, b15sentra.net when I had my Sentra SE-R Spec V).

1. Air Intake System- I've been researching this too but I couldn't give you any definate answers, maybe someone else can pick this one up for me... But what I've gathered so far, you might be best off by keeping your stock intake setup but get a K&N drop-in air filter for some extra flow and you won't ever have to replace it.

2. Leather Seats- I have the black & grey Altima SE-R seats that came with my car but I wouldn't bother getting leather if it didn't come with the car. I guess you'd have to look at which category you're trying to shoot for: appearance, performance, or 50/50? I would just save the money you would pay for leather seats and buy something else for your car. And the heated seats thing... Leather gets wicked cold in the winter so you kind of need it. If you have cloth, I wouldn't bother with it.

3. TCS- My SE-R came with this but no way would I pay money to put it in. Again, I would save my money and buy something else for my car. It's front wheel drive anyways so you'll do pretty good in the snow (if you get snow where you live) and rain. Just spend the money on better tires maybe?

Hope that helps.
