Default new brakes

Well now, seeing all the intrest by all of the SE-R owners I guess I'll throw a few thinngs out there.Anybody heard of or used X brake rotors before. I'm looking to pick up some new front rortors and really like the look of drilled rortors. I think they will look nice behind those great rims. Price isn't bad compared to the Italian disc. Just wanted to know if anyone has any input on this.

So has anyone done any mods yet.

Remember the old saying "you get what you pay for". They should be fine for normal to spirited driving. Here is the only expensive mod my wife and I have done:

Now if I were to go in that direction, I'd not have much use for drilled rotors.

I hear ya on investing!

I just saw this post and couldnt help but laugh. And at the same time, when I look at these cheap brake kits on line, I think of my kids toddler seat! and how I dont want to see it flying out the window if my new brakes dont grab.

Interesting view. Think I'll keep it O.E.M. Ya know they work!

The stock brakes on my SE-R kept me from hitting a deer the other night. My HID xenon lights also helped me see them (there were actually 3 crossing the road at the same time). If you subscribe to Road and Track, they did an article on the Altima SE-R and recorded the performance numbers which are impressive in all categories (especially braking). Its 60-0mph stopping distance competes w/ highend sportscars.

It's been discussed that if you want to get aftermarket rotors to try and get the slotted ones, not the drilled. I had a set of drilled and slotted rotors on my last car (Sentra SE-R Spec V) and they were fine but I've read that the drilled effect "compromises the integrity of the disc itself, making it less solid". But that's just a website's opinion. Something to think about if you're going to have them on there for a while or if you live in the Northeast with all the damn salt on the roads... My drilled holes always had rust on them...

I've heard about drilled out rotors compromising the rotors strength but that was when they first came to market. The technological advancements since then have all but remedied that problem from what I've heard. Plus, the slotted rotors are more for all-out racing b/c the slots are to remove the glaze that accumulates on the brake pad by "slicing" the pad during each revolution; thus, also reducing pad wear life. Drilled-out rotors evacuate heat and dust about the same as slotted rotors so I think I would go with those or maybe a combination of the two like someone else said they've tried.

I agree with car4reak. If anything try to get the slotted rotors so that you can benefit from longer pad life, etc. and if you really want, get the rotors that are drilled and slotted. Not gonna lie, the look of rotors that are drilled AND slotted do look really nice, expecially if you have your calipers painted red or something.

fyi - I put a set of slotted and crossdrilled on my VW GTI with hawk pads.. they work great.. i run it on a track once and awhile. The factory brakes fried the first track run. I have 30K miles on them the pads still look like new.

The wife drives our altima.. she does not drive quite fast enough to need the higher end brakes. (next altima will have the 3.5!)

plus as everyone mentioned above.. they look cool.
