Default New to HID and halo fogs

Just bought an 08 Altima Sedan. Looking at HID's and possibly fogs... Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I know that the headlights take the ballasts and such but what about the fogs?

Congrats on your new car. If you're doing HID fogs, then both headlights and fogs will require ballasts. You can do 55W lows, but not many people do them because of the extra heat and a good chance of flaring. Most people do 35W. The fogs will only handle 35W because of the heat generated by the bulb. If you want a crisp white with a hint of blue, look for a 5000K or 6000K bulb temp. A lot of OEM HIDs are 4300K, so they are more of a pure white with a tiny hint of yellow. Not as yellow as a halogen though. If you go beyond 6000K, the color starts getting into the violet range and you have a greater chance of being stopped by police and harrassment by me because 8000K is rice.

Some people will also install a relay with the fogs to help offset the initial power demand. I've never used one, probably never will. I've never had problems with not having relays.

Search around for HID suppliers and post what you find. If you find a kit for $100 and it's a smokin deal, let us know before you buy. You can find kits for as low as $40-60.

Good luck!

the halo fogs I've heard don't have as good an output so they go with the OEM type fog assemblies but use either LED bulbs or 35w HID bulbs. I tend to agree. They look cool using LED bulbs from up close, but as far as output, I think the OEM fog assemblies produce more output with either LEDs or HID bulbs.

I think you can use 55w HIDs but you have to make sure that the HID bulbs won't melt your OEM low/high beam housings so that's why most people go with 35w for the lows as well.

After I get my altima back from the body shop, I'm going to finally put HIDs in the lows, but not sure if I want to go with 55w...35w sounds much safer. This one local place said that the 55w that they sell don't melt the low/high beam housings, but I've never heard of a flaring problem with the 55w before...

What's some good websites to start looking. I finally found some people that can point me in the right direction. We dont have any shops where I live that do these kinds of things. I think when I do decide to get them I want to go with 35W and 6000K in my lows to start off with. Then do my highs. Do u have to have a different set of ballasts for each set of lights? And how hard is all this? I'm not completely dumb to the automotive world but this is my first new car and I really don't want to screw anything up. Y'all have been a lot of help so far. Thanks a bunch!

I have HIDs in my Fogs. 35w kit. Looks really crisp and clean. Upgraded stock HIDs to 8000k and not as blue as I anticipated, which I glad about. It's a very very white with a slight tint of blue.

Fogs REALLY light up the road. More visible light output than the headlight, but probably due to the height and the fact that they are not HIDs reflectors. But at night it is truly beautiful.

I say go for it. I bought from DDM.
