Car still has codes except, car is definitely misfiring now by the way its driving. I changed the spark plugs, spark plugs wires, distributor, distributor cap and rotor. Next i am gonna try changing the crank sensors. I doubt the knock sensor is causing the misfires. I guess i'll check the injectors too.

Hi, have you had any luck with this? I'm having the same problem. Thanks!

No i haven't. The only 2 things left that i can think of are crank angle sensor and a leak in the intake manifold. I check the manifold before by spraying some brake cleaner or some other cleaner around the manifold gasket to see if the idle would change and it didn't. That might not have been the best way of checking that issue. I don't think changing the knock sensor would help and it's a PITA changing it anyways. I doubt i am gonna continue fixing it as the car won't pass inspection and is banged up so she is gonna just get a new car. If i happen to be at a junk yard soon i'm gonna pick up a crank angle sensor and change that. I'll post the results of that if i do that. Try testing the plugs and wires first. I don't know if you changed/tested everything yet?

It's a car I got from my cousin. I went to get it inspected and it failed. The check engine light wasn't on and they told me that it's not working (not turning on when the dash lights up before engine turns on). which I have to fix to pass inspection. Maybe the light bulb is bad or someone tampered with the system before my cousin bought it. That's another thing for me to solve. Any ideas?

I just ordered wires and distributor. My cousin changed the spark plugs less than 6 months ago to try and resolve the roughness with no luck.

I'm not a savvy mechanical person, but I'm intending to determine the cause on my own, for once (of course with the help of others )

I'll change the wires and distributor cap and report back.

I keep reading something about testing the pressure in the cylinders. Is that something worth doing? Also, I read that the 4th cylinder would be #4 from left to right. Just want to doublecheck. thanks for your prompt reply.

Thanks! That's a happy story : ) I hope I don't have to dig down this deep. I added the link to my list of gathered information. Thanks again.

4th cylinder is closest to the distributor. Based on the thread provided by Mike. You might be able to just disconnect the EGR tube and clean the EGR from there if all else fails. I might look into that too if i have time just to satisfy my curiosity.
