Default Popping noise when braking

I was driving my wifes 05 Altima 3.5 5MT ( 51k MILES) over the weekend and I noticed a popping noise when braking. It only makes the noise when almost stopped. It does it regardless if the wheels are turned or straight. As soon as I let off of the pedal it goes away. I am changing the brake pads this evening with OEM Nissan pads. Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong? Thanks in advance.

I replaced the pads on a friends altima and tried to bleed the brakes, but never got all the air out. After a day or so of driving on spongy brakes it returned to normal, so remember they are self bleeding...!

I call B.S. on the self bleeding idea.

check your upper engine motor mount. usually goes bad about then. and no the brakes do not self bleed. no brake system does.
