Just my opinion, but it seems like a lot of money and time to do this compared with trading it off for one with a 3.5 already in it. You are looking at upgrading the suspension, cooling system, wiring, and other parts to do a swap. If you are investing in a turbo package, save the headaches and get an SE-R or rebuild your 4 banger with a turbo. I bet you will be happier in the long run!
I suspect that's why not too many have done it...

IMO you are still in for a boatload of headaches, cheap or not. Unless you turn wrenches for a living, you are getting in deep. It will cost you not only money, but weeks of work to get it done right. For example, free springs, but labor and alignment costs. You need a good set of tools for all this too! The wiring alone would stop me!
As far as a turbo set-up, you can buy a safe kit to add it on. Some are fairly complete kits. You will need an ECU program to handle it. It also depends on how much boost/HP you are going for, as far as the engine mod requirements. If you stay reasonable, the stock engine will be OK.

If you find an Alti at the scrapyard buy everything and drop it in yours. If you are "mechanically inclined" it isn't that bad at all. I purchased a complete swap in 2007 form a 2006 SE-R Altima that had been totaled. You can get a six-speed from an Alti SE-R or a Maxima and bolt it right onto the VQ, then get your mounts and it will drop right in. Wiring it all up is more work but once again it is doable...

EDIT: I just noticed the year of the thread, sorry folks...

No, the two different generations have different mounting setups. Not interchangeable from what I can tell.

02-06 SE-R 5 speed and Spec V. The cars are cheap now, like $3000 to $5000. Or find a blown one for less, swapping it anyway...

Im trying to take my VQ35DE out of my G coupe and throw a QR25DE into it. my VQ is still running strong but i want better gas mileage. people have asked why i dont just buy a new car? 1. i love my car, still attached 2. i wanna keep my mods 3. i want better gas mileage

does anyone know if the wiring is vastly different? I have heard of a lot of people throwing the V6 into altimas with ease, so i figure it would be rather easy to throw the QR into my G then wouldnt it?

There are soooo many things wrong with what you're asking. The VQ is not that much worse on gas, you'll be extremely disappointed.

What why would you want to do that. that just seems plain out stupid to say it nicely. The only time i have heard of somebody putting in a 4cyl in a G/Z was iirc the one guy who put a sr20 in his Z. And it was built and i think it had like 600hp, they did it for weight reduction and better balance of the cars weight.

Dont do this lol......
