So im on my second tank and im doing the 2000k RPM diet lets see how this go's.First tank ended up with 288 miles but i was only 3/4 tank full.normally i get 300 out of a full tank of ethanol gas!

The VQ's have high compression engines. The lower octane gases are thinner and will not work properly. Higher octane are alot thicker and help the compression of the engine and will prevent the engine from knocking & long term damage.

Not really thicker then another, 93 burns hotter then 87. But yes it prevents knocking and damage to the engine.

Why does my manual say 87 grade then?

Higher octane = more resistance to detonation, (knock). It's debatable that a small hp motor like our 3.5's can produce more hp using 93 vs 87. A high compression turbo build I agree, but a N/A close to stock setup without a tune I'm not convinced. I've tried premium and never noticed a difference, although I never tried more then two tanks at a time. I'm not starting an argument, just saying I've never noticed a difference.

(What's with this thread being in the Hybrid section?)

maybe it was moved i originally had in the 4.5 gen section since i have a 4.5 gen.Im sure the 89 grade will be ok.my MPG have increased so far and im pleased!!

I tested it a couple of weeks ago - I paid 4.22 a gallon, but my miles per gallon went up form an average of 28.8 to 34.8. I can usually go 5 to 6 days without filling up. On this ethanol-free tank, I went 9 days without a fill up
