It takes 3 consecutive pushes.
Owners manual;

● Do not operate the push-button ignition
switch while driving the vehicle except
in an emergency. (The engine will stop

consecutive times or the ignition switch
is pushed and held for more than 2
seconds.) If the engine stops while the

to a crash and serious injury.
● When the battery of the Intelligent Key
runs down, insert the Intelligent Key
into the Intelligent Key port until a click
sounds. And then, push the ignition
switch to start the engine.
● If the steering lock release malfunction
indicator appears on the vehicle infor-

ignition switch again while lightly turn-
ing the steering wheel right and left.

yeah mine beeps telling me that i have the key and left the car on all the time. Sometimes i let people drive it and i keep the key with me, good feature...i dont trust anyone with my car keys, so i keep them. So whenever i leave the car to get something or drop off something it beeps, gets annoying after a while because its like a daily thing with me haha.

No problem with mine yet, but it is brand new. I love the fact that my keys never leave my pocket though. I don't even need to pull them out to open my door, the car senses when the key is near and then I just push the button on the handle, enter the car, push the clutch and then the button and i'm gone!!

My Versa has the iKey... I think it's the best thing ever because I hate rummaging through my bag for keys. Now, if I could just get iKey for my house, then I'd never have to take them out!

Oh, back to the topic... the Versa I have has iKey, but it has a starter that is not a push button. It's more like a traditional switch in the would-be ignition area, and has the accessory/on/start positions. I actually like this more because I don't have to press on the brake to start and I know exactly what position it's in... also less prone to accidental presses (pic: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/compact/112_0608_economy_car_comparison/photo_07.html)

I have an 07 Altima hybrid and have never had a problem with the push button starter. Never having to fumble with keys. As long as I have the fob in my pocket, the doors open with a button on the handle and the trunk opens with a button above the license plate. I thought it was just another gimmick when I first bought the car, but it turned out to be an extremely convenient feature.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread.. haha. But i think the Versa should get the push button too. Isn't the iKey and option on Versa? If it is then they should get pb starter.

I bought a used 2008 Altima and the dealer gave it to me with only one intelligent key. Does anyone know how to go around getting another one (don't relish the idea of only having one fob, what if I lose it?) and how much they cost?

I also bought a used 2008 Niissan Altima with the push-button starter. I love it. I also only have one iKey though. I know my VW key was around $250.00 w/o programming. I'm not real sure I want to know how much another will be for my Altima but, I am going back to the dealer tonight and will ask them how much for the fob and programming.

Well, I tell you that I found a replacement fob on Ebay for about $35 but every dealership, even the one I bought the car from) wants $100+ to program it (bloodsucking parasited that they are). I would go somewhere else and rather pay them the $100 but the car is so new only dealerships have the machine to program the key. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Ahhh and it taste so good... sorry I work at a Nissan Stealership and love hearing people ***** and moan about prices. I'm not gonna get into my gouging arguments from other forms of labor and business, but I'm sure you can let your mind wander.

Default Keyless start woes

Let me tell you about 3 incidences that occurred with our 2008 Altima.
One, you don’t have to put the car in park to turn off the car, so my husband went to get out of the car once and it started rolling. With safety features coming out the yin yang these days, I am amazed Nissan got away with this one.
Two, at a hotel in DC we let the valet take the car to park it. Of course, we forgot that we had the key so when he went to get out he couldn’t lock it and apparently they couldn’t figure out who owned the car so it remained unlocked all night. In DC of all places!
Three, today my husband dropped me off at Wal-mart. Since I usually drive the car, I had the key in my purse. He went to a store a mile down, turned off the car and realized he didn’t have the key. So, a friend that worked there drove him back to get the key from me. Consider this scenario: my husband drops me off at the airport, waits until I’m high in the sky, and goes out to start the car for the two hour drive home. Except, I have the key.
We want to keep this car for many years and we are worried that as we continue to lose brain cells (we are 55) these kinds of things will keep happening. The only thing we can think to do is to keep the extra key in the car at all times. As much as I love the car, I won’t ever buy another car with keyless start unless I have no choice. I do not recommend it at all, especially for older folks.
