One, you don’t have to put the car in park to turn off the car, so my husband went to get out of the car once and it started rolling. With safety features coming out the yin yang these days, I am amazed Nissan got away with this one.
Two, at a hotel in DC we let the valet take the car to park it. Of course, we forgot that we had the key so when he went to get out he couldn’t lock it and apparently they couldn’t figure out who owned the car so it remained unlocked all night. In DC of all places!
Three, today my husband dropped me off at Wal-mart. Since I usually drive the car, I had the key in my purse. He went to a store a mile down, turned off the car and realized he didn’t have the key. So, a friend that worked there drove him back to get the key from me. Consider this scenario: my husband drops me off at the airport, waits until I’m high in the sky, and goes out to start the car for the two hour drive home. Except, I have the key.
We want to keep this car for many years and we are worried that as we continue to lose brain cells (we are 55) these kinds of things will keep happening. The only thing we can think to do is to keep the extra key in the car at all times. As much as I love the car, I won’t ever buy another car with keyless start unless I have no choice. I do not recommend it at all, especially for older folks.
I thought if you take out the fob then the car won't drive? Is that true, or does it just have to be started with the fob in the car and then it will continue?

Default Keyless start woes

Yes,
Once you have started the car with the fob, it will keep going even if you leave the car. For example, when I warm up the car in the morning, I can take the fob with me and it will still run. There IS a warning sound (3 beeps) along with a "Warning no key" window that comes up. Unfortunately, one must pay close attention, which we don't always do. In our instance, I got out of the car with the key while it was running, and my husband took off, not noticing the warning. If you have more brain cells than we do, you should be ok. Just remember to put in completely in Park before you turn it off or it will roll away!!

Yep, I dropped my mum off at an event with her Altima. She had the key in her pocket, so I got that warning all the way home and just prayed I didn't have to turn it off since I wouldn't be able to start it again. Funny.

Our 2008 does beep really loudly if you go to turn it off without putting it in park first. Guess they learned their lesson quick - although I'm surprised they didn't recall the earlier models which apparently don't do that. Still not trusting of the CVT, I use the parking brake.

I've never seen that? I knew that the car had a key in the fob, but not a physical key slot in the car itself.

I like to use push button starter because of no need key to start just physically push the button for start the car.

It's for the fob, not the key. It's on the left hand side near the trunk release. You stick the fob in there if the fob battery is dead.

I love the keyless system -
Never worry about over cranking, or accidentally grinding the starter teeth by hitting 'start' when the engine is already running -

Mine is '09, I have driven it for 13 months, and zero troubles with anything.
Typical of Nissan's, though; we have driven them since 1982, and all were SUPER behicles.

Just like any other car, you have to get to the battery to:
1. Jump start the car
2. Charge the battery
3. Replace the battery

Slide the little lock on your fob, pull the metal key out of it, and unlock the drivers door with that. Reach in, pull the hood release, and you are ready for 1, 2 or 3.

Absolutely.
That was one of the things I asked the salesman when I first saw the keyless system.

Something else I discovered by accident -
They explain, of course, that if you leave your keys inside the car you cannot lock the doors.
Good feature!

When we picked up a large "to go" order one day, I opened the trunk using the fob, then set all the bags inside, making sure nothing would spill.
Then I closed the trunk.
It would not latch.
I examined the latch, and I could see nothing broken -
On subsequent tries, I noticed the beeper sounding a problem -
Then I spotted my keys on the floor of the trunk. I had used the fob to open the trunk as I approached the car, then just dropped them while I arranged all the bags.
But Nissan has that built in also: You can not shut the trunk with your keys inside, even if you stand right there with ANOTHER set in your pocket.

There is a drawback with that -
When we will be walking a lot, my wife sometimes leaves her purse (four cubic feet, 93 pounds) in the trunk.
With this feature, she has to remove her keys from her purse and carry them with her, even though I have mine in my pocket.

We have not experienced the other problems listed here.
Even though the Nissan Frontier is my wifes, I have a key and fob for it on my keyring in my pocket. Even though this Altima is mine, my wife has the fob for it on her keyring in her purse.

Wow thats really good.I locked my keys into my Accord coups trunk once.It wasnt good .It was right before hurricane Gustav was coming and i was on base and all my supplies i bright with me to live off of were in the car! we broke the window to get in.no lock smith would come on base right before a hurricane in Mississippi !! The Altima would have saved me from going through the head ache of waiting in a large warehouse with a hurricane coming and plastic and tape holding my window together.
