Default Removing taillight covers

Has anyone removed the clear plastic on the 2006 altima tail light covers. I am trying to get some paint done to the inner housing.

I have never done it, but I hear it is very difficult and involves heating them in an oven.

It does indeed require heating them in an oven. I have no idea why Nissan would make it that hard to remove..

As far as I know all cars are like that.

My guess is that with clear housings, the seal is important to reduce the possibilty of condensation.

Random story: I remember some jenky clear corner 'mod' (for the Del Sol I used to have) involved prying off the clear plastic to remove an amber filter... I should have left it alone since I ended stepping on it and cracking it. haha

I'm actually curious about this as well. I did this to my old Tiburon headlamps. It involved putting the whole headlight housing in the oven at like 250 for only a few minutes to warm up the sealant and then you could just pry open the housing with your hands. Do what you gotta do on the inside and then reheat the whole housing and push em back together and it should seal up. ---- but I'm not sure if this is the same case for the Altima cuz I would like to do it to the tail lights and darken the chrome surrounding the two lights...

actually the covers on the taillights cannot be baked off like the headlights. you would have to cut them open with a dremel. good luck with that.

True. You can not bake them in the oven.. you just wont have the same effect. We do modifications to headlights here and tail lights is a different story. I opened up a pair. one got screwed up. way I did it with a heat gun and a knife. not the best way. going to attempt dremmel next. Ill post some pictures when it is done, but yeah it is pain in a butt.
