Default Replacing low beam driver's side headlights by removing air filter housing?

Hey guys, this is driving me nuts. My driver's side low beam headlight is out. I'm trying to replace it but I can't find anyone who explains how to remove the air filter housing properly. I've searched the net and this forum. Sorry if this is probably been discussed before but I need to do this before I get stopped

After popping the retainer clips and lifting the air filter housing top. I found 1 10mm bolt attaching the bottom of the air filter housing to the fender. Once this bolt and the top of the air filter housing is removed, the base of the housing is still stuck in place attached to another pipe by hinges that look like they would crack if removed. I already cracked one. Thanks a mil!

Unclip the top of the air breather to expose the filter. There's a gear clamp just past the maf that you must loosen. Now flip up the top of the air breather and set it aside without disconnecting the maf. You should now be able to just jiggle and pull straight up on the rest of the air breather housing..it should pop right out. This should ive you plenty of room to change your bulb.

Ive removed the top of the air housing and the bolt that holds the base of the air housing in place. The housing is still attached to another pipe that leads over the radiator. In general. The housing feels stuck in place even after removing the bolt.

You need to remove that piece over the radiator that you mentioned in your post. $ little push pin clips need to be removed...they'e right along the top of the piece...

Unhappy

I actually figured it out. I did remove air dam over the radiator and I pulled out the housing harder. I didn't realize it had 2 pins attached to the bottom that had to be yanked out. I was just worried I would break something. I'm going to post some more pics showing other people how to do it also. Now I have another problem. The low beam still doesn't turn on. There are two possible problems:

1. The light I purchased was dead.
2. I have this wire hanging down from underneath the gril toward the driver's side headlight. I have no idea where it's coming from. I posted a pic. Could this be related to the bulb not turning on.

That wire is for optional fog lamps. Either you damaged the bulb putting it in or you have a bad connection at the bulb. Recheck it.

By the way, there is a recall for these headlamp bulbs if you have the right year. Call a dealer and give them your VIN. They can tell you for sure.

Hmm. I'm not sure I really didnt do much to the new bulb. After connecting it I tested the lights before I really started fussing with putting in the bulb housing. It didnt turn on. I hope its not the wiring. I'll try playing with it again tomorrow. If the passenger side lights aren't as hard to take out I'll test this bulb there. This way I can rule out whether it's the bulb or not.

Btw, is the recall on the bulb itself or the headlight housing and the wiring?

On the 05, isn't the metal ground connector attached to the red wire connector like a ring. I saw some pics of the 03 and the black wire is attached to metal that is separate from the metal attached to the red wire connector.

Default electrical problem in driver's side low beam headlights

I tried to do it again taking my time installing the low beam headlight bulb and it still didn't work so I took it to Pep Boys and they told me that it wasn't the bulb, that there's something wrong with the electrical wiring. They said it would cost $99 just for them to look further let alone solve the issue so I just left. I've never seen this. Anyone know about this. Will this be a big deal to get fixed?

The recall is for the way they set up the wiring for the bulbs. The wiring would get hot and melt the headlamp assembly where the bulb goes causing the bulb to not work. There is a kit that is installed on the headlamp assemblies. The black ground wire goes on a metal ring that is placed on the bulb. The red wire goes on the bulb itself. But if the headlamp assemblies are melted at all they have to be replaced.

It doesn't look like anything is melted. Only the drivers side low beam won't turn on. Pep boys said there may be a short in the wiring. How can I diagnose this myself. Is there a less expensive way to solve this problem.
