SES light came on
my SES light came on...went to Aamco this morning since Autozone no longer checks your SES for free.
The OBD2 reader came up with these 2 codes:
P1778 - Transmission Reverse IP Circuit Malfunction
P0716 - Transmission Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
My car in december was involved in an accident and the auto body repair shop had to replace the parts for the fenders and bumper. I remember they said that the delay in my car being ready was the extra wiring involved. Also the airbag control module had to be back ordered from nissan since they could not find a part anywhere in the US. So does anyone think it might be due to the wiring not being properly installed or there might be a faulty part?? I know I'll have to take it back to the auto body shop.
I actually signed my signature after learning that the air bag control module was back ordered, so it just meant that the airbags would be disabled, but the car was still drivable. After the part came in and they installed the air bag control module, the SES light went off for awhile. It came back on about a week and a half ago.
**edit, 2009 2.5s sedan with 45k miles on it

Uh oh...
After a little research it seems the only fix is a new cvt. I would be making an appointment with Nissan about this. The code p1778, from what I've read is a step motor issue which is internal, and Nissan doesn't service internal parts. I really hope I'm wrong, but given it should be covered under warranty, I don't think you have much choice.

would this step motor be damaged from a front collision??
I thought it might just be a bad sensor from the new wiring kit that was installed from the damage of the collision.

I guess anything is possible, but given the history of this code, I don't know if I would mess with it. Can you go back the place that did the work? Did they offer any warranty with what they did?

I will have to go back since they do guarantee their work. I never had the SES light come on before the accident, so it must have something to do with the parts they had to replace.
How long is a job like replacing the cvt typically?? a week??

If it's anything like the 3rd gen, it's about a 7 hour job with no incidentals. The cvt may complicate that, I'm not sure. I think the hard part may be locating a cvt. I would start by bringing it in and getting a good understanding of what's going on. Good luck.

so this step motor issue from the cvt is probably causing my fuel economy to suffer?? I really hope it's just a wiring issue because when I drove the car without the airbag module, it was driving fine, just that the SES light and airbag light was on, but once they installed the back ordered part, both lights went off and were off for about a couple of weeks.

I'm going to take the car back to the auto shop tomorrow and see if they can do something about those engine codes because it was driving fine after they installed that airbag control module, so I assume it has something to do with that wiring kit they had to order from nissan too.

took the car back to the auto shop earlier today. Took a half day off from work. The auto shop checked the wiring and checked with one of their nissan guys and he hasn't seen any codes like this before. The wiring was rechecked and nothing appears out of place. So maybe the impact might've jarred some of the sensors. The auto shop owner said that I should make an appointment with the dealer to see what the actual issue is and if there are repairs involved, it should be covered either by the CPO warranty or my insurance company since it seems that it may be due to the impact of the accident.

I haven't had a chance to take my car to the dealer yet, but it looks like I'm not the only one experiencing the same thing and from what the other guy experienced and received the same code, I guess the code isn't from the impact from my accident.
**since this site blocks nissan club links, here's the title under the 2007+ altima discussion 2.5 & 3.5:
Nissan Dealer Baffled by Problem. Any Ideas?
In my case I've never shifted into manual during driving to begin with
I tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes and the SES light went away but only for a moment. After I drove around for a bit, it came back...

what's a reasonable rate for the dealer to charge for their own diagnostic test?? One of the dealers close to me wants to charge $120

Well I took it into the dealer and the tech said I need a new cvt!! The sensor that is inside the cvt kept failing and coming back on after he cleared it a couple of times from the tcm. So they're going to order it since they don't have any in stock. I should have it by Thursday morning. gonna have another rental......ugh!!
At least its no cost to me since the cvt is covered for 120k miles and cpo watrranty is 100I miles, just another inconvenience with a rental after my accident in december

They said those two codes didn't show up on their diagnostic machine but according to theirs, they had like 6 codes unique to Nissan

Glad your getting it fixed under warranty Guru. One of the reasons of why I purchased a 2010 over a 2011.
