Default Shift Knob removal

I haven't had a manual in a long time and this is probably the dumbest question ever, but anyone know how to take a manual shift knob off of an `05 3.5 SE. I thought it may screw off but it seems like it just keeps turning forever. The cap with the shift pattern comes off but after if just seems to keep turning. Do i have to pull the boot down somehow first or is there a screw or something. I don't want to break anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine is the same way. I just wound up giving up, didn't want to break it. If I find out I'll get back with you.

i know this thread was like a year ago, but if it helps anyone else here goes..

the manual should have a pin holding the actual shift knob to the Shifter lever. the pin only comes out 1 way, you should have to push the pin going from a SOUTH to NORTH push! once you've doing that you should be able to just left it up..
