Default Slow speed up of blower motor ??

2009 Altima SE, 4 door, 4 cylinder, AT with manual heater and air conditioner.

I seems like last winter when it started getting cold, I'd turn on the heater blower motor and it would blow air right away.

When I turned it on the other day, it took the blower motor 30-45 seconds before it would blow 'at speed' regardless of where I turned the fan speed dial.

Am I losing it or should there be a rather long, IMO, delay before the blower blows air at the set speed on the fan speed dial? None of my other vehicles have a delay.

Any help would be appreciated as I talked to the dealership mechanic and he acted like I was off my rocker.

When you turned the fan on, would it blow any air at all, or would it not blow anything until after the 45 seconds?

When the fan speed dial is turned to start the blower blowing air, there is a long pause before the fan kicks in and starts to blow air. This also happens if the blower has been running on a lower speed and you turn up the dial to increase the speed - there is a long delay before the blower kicks up to a higher speed. If the speed is decreased, the fan slows about as fast as you lower the speed on the dial.

Every American vehicle ever owned the fan speeds up before you can get your hand off the fan speed control.

Hope it's clearer now.

And thank you for your interest.

You'll have to find out if the 07 Altima has a resistor or if the fan is controlled by a module (bcm). If it's just a simple resistor it's an easy replacement. I'm pretty sure that your fan speed is controlled by a module, so it may take a reprogram or another module to fix the issue. If it only happens when it's cold the it's really not a big issue, at least it wouldn't be for me for the price of a new part. It could be that it's a normal operation of the BCM as well, seeing as the speeds do work, just not right away.

Thanks ... and it's a 2009 Altima, not 2007.
It was cool enough this summer really didn't use the air much and didn't notice if the fan was slow in starting. Heat in the winter is necessary when temps drop to -20; or -30 or -40 degrees as it does living only acouple hundred miles south of the Canadian border.
