Default Speedometer issues

1993 Altima w/5 speed has an issue with the speedo in that it only reads 20 mph at idle then 40 mph at any other speed. Odometer works fine. We installed a replacement speedo but that didn’t work because it was from a car with the Heads-Up Display system. Put the original speedo back, it operates the same but now I have a couple of questions:
Has anyone had this issue? How’d you resolve it?
Do you think this is a speedo or perhaps a speed sensor issue?
Do you have a parts source for a speedo and a speed sensor?
Thanks…

It does sound like a speed sensor. Aftermarket manufacturers all have a listing for it.

Yeah its the speed sensor. Same thing happened to me with my Spec V, and I bought my sensor at Nissan.

I put a new speed sensor in mine but that didn't fix the problem. I still have to use my GPS to tell my speed. Everything else works but the speedo. Even the odometer still works.
