Unhappy steering wheel vibe ( side to side )

ok so heres a really good question and its been bugging the crap out of me to the point im about to sell my rims and throw stocks on. i purchased a set of 20s and ever since then there has been a vibe in the steering wheel above 55 mph then evens out at 65. someone was saying i needed to get spaces and another was get rings. i know theres a slight gap between the rim and the hub. Are the oem rims lug centric or hub centric ? Any suggestions ?

You need to make sure the wheels have a good balance on them. I have 20s on mine with no problems. 9 out of 10 times its the balance of the wheel n tire assimbly in the front. Some wheels and some tires balance out better then others. I would start by checking the balance on them. Also the wheels should be hub centric. Make sure the wheels are centered on the hub of the spindle too.

Also you can call the place you bought them from and if there required for your wheel. What they do is center the wheel when the lugs are being tightened, also ckeck for the proper torque spec

Sorry I was referring to centering rings, if you wheels require them, this can be your problem.

+1 if you're talking about the hub rings. It's always recommended to get them with aftermarket wheels.

I had a similar issue with stock rims. It wasn't balance but the rims was out of round. The steering wheel pulsed left and right almost like shaking. I put the worst ones on the back and it helped a lot. Have the put the rim on the spin-balancer and watch the edge of the rim as it spins.

I would start with a set of hubcentric rings. Very affordable just may be difficult to find. If you cant find rings you can also use spline lugs. Any wheel and tire shop should know about all this. Is your tire shop doing a road force balance or just a normal balance on your tires? (there is a huge diffrence especially when your talking about larger wheels.

I'm having a similar issue. I have brand new 18's on my 08 altima with 245/40/18s hugging them. I have noticeably more road noise and vibration in the steering wheel. What should my first plan of action be? I refuse to believe that putting 18 inch rims should sacrifice my ride that much...

Road noise would probably be the tires, so nothing you can do about that. Did you get hubcentric rings installed with your wheels?
