Default Stock Radio Upgrade Suggestions

I bought an 09’ Altima with the stock radio system. It has a CD player and an Aux input which is really all I need as far as the head unit is concerned. I would eventually like to get XM but I can just throw one of the small DIY units as I have had one in the past and it was fine.

My main desire is to have a system that sounds clear and “throaty” when turned up loud. I am thinking that all I need to invest in right now is an amp and maybe upgrade the speakers.

So with all of the experts out there that know the output capability of the stock head-unit, what would be my best option.

Oh….semi budget too. I don’t want to throw a ton of cash into this. Remember, I did buy the non-premium audio version vehicle….

Could I get by with just upgrading the speakers and no amp? Would that do much for increased audio?

It'd be better just to replace the oem non bose head unit for an aftermarket since the oem unit outputs to 2 ohms, so you'd have to get 2 ohm speakers, otherwise the power is cut in half. But still, I don't think the oem non bose head unit has really good output frequencies like aftermarket head units.

You don't have to go crazy with adding a 4 channel amp. You can simply just get a nice single din or double din head unit and replace the front 6.5" speakers and rear 6x9's with aftermarket 2 way coaxials

I agree with gameguru1360. I replaced my stock head unit with an aftermarket and it was a huge improvement.

if you get components, you have to get an amp, but even with more powerful coaxials, getting an amp just allows them to sound cleaner when you crank up the volume. With head unit power, they may sound distorted since most aftermarket head units only put out a maximum of 20-22 rms watts.

And then if you're into deep bass, then you'll have to get a mono amp and sub!!
