Default Summer's coming - clean your HVAC condenser coils

I just hosed out the outdoor condenser unit at my place.

It's starting to get hot and I wanted to get all the dust/dirt/hair out of the coils to keep my electric bill down this summer.

I definitely saw a difference in my bills between the first summer I moved in and the first summer that I actually cleaned out the gunk.

Here are my shiny coils -

is the condenser like a metal filter for the a/c unit?? Sorry I don't have central air to know what a condenser is. I would assume it's like a metal filter

No prob guys.

You should also run some hot water and a bit of bleach in to your condensate drain pipe at the air handler inside the house.

We once had our air handler drain pipe clog up and water leaked everywhere.

gameguru - The condenser is the "outside" a/c unit that contains coils for cooling off the heated coolant liquid, a fan for sucking air through the coils and a compressor for sending the cooled fluid back to the air handler "inside" a/c unit to cool off the air.

There should be a removable cap on the condensate drain pipe to let you flush it out. Just like the one in the middle of this pic.
