Default Takeda vs K&N

Alright people I could use some advice on this topic. Everything I seem to find on these cars is VQ related and I would like to make a researched and well thought out decision before making my purchase.

First let me start with I hate eGAY crap and can't stand AutoZone half ass jerry rigged stuff as well. I myself prefer well developed and reputable parts manufactures because they have never let me down EVER. If that makes me sound like an ass I apologize in advance I just don't need wasted posts of people telling me to do that lol Also this is for my girls car and she has a expensive and high level of taste so to speak.

Well now onto the topic at hand. The car is an '09 2.5S and has about 60k on it. It's only purpose is the daily grind but would like to make it purr a little. It's to quite so after intake an exhaust will be on order.

I enjoy the Takeda because of look and style. It also advertises a 9hp bump in power which is exciting as well. My issue how ever is it doesn't have a heat shield and I believe that would be very beneficial to how this cars engine bay is setup.

The K&N is set up exactly the same AND with a heat shield but advertises lower HP rating.

Now my question to you all is what one's have you guys used and what is your opinions and experiences and how accurate are the HP readings the manufactures give? Hope you guys can help and thanks for your free time.

From what I've seen they do come with a heat shield, and a bolt on part to channel air from the front scoop right into the filter. The K&N is a really nice setup with a heat shield that seals to the hood. My issue with the Takeda is the apparent "open-ness" of the filter element to the heat from the engine. I know we can't get a true CAI because of that dumb fuse box, but I've always been taught the colder the better.

Well I'm thinking on Monday I'll call up there and ask em about it. If they feed
Me some crap then I'll get k&n but I like the way the takeda looks so it'd be nice if it did have one.

the 2.5 doesn't come with one. It comes with a 45 degree elbow for the factory air scoop. Only the 3.5 comes with the heat shield.

As for the K&N typhoon, both the 2.5 and 3.5 come with the heat shield.

Alright thanks. Good info. I might order the Takeda just cause like I said I enjoy the overall look vs the K&N and if I really want a heatsheild I can fab one up one day if I feel like it. Not really that complicated of a thing to do lol

I'd imagine you might be able to find one from Takeda or another manufacturer. The cone type short ram intakes are cloned allover the world, so any one of them might just fit with little or no modification. From what I have read and seen, it appears that the Takeda is the choice of Altima drivers. I'm wondering how much of that choice is the $100-$175 difference in price!

I am going to vote K&N simply because I think it looks better and I think is more sturdy. I just put one on me 11'

You don't really need a heatshield with the QR25. Our engine isn't like a lot of other engines that runs better with colder air. The QR25 doesn't really have a preference over cold or warm air.. It just wants air!

the K&N typhoon looks cool with the heat shield, but I chose the takeda because it's a dry flow so one less step in cleaning it with a recharge kit. You just simply wash & dry it!

Ya I like the color of the filter and the polished look of the inake tubing over the all black K&N with the reddish filter. The car is dark blue so trying to make the colors look good together ya know

from what I've read with the K&N, the transmission hose is plastic whereas the takeda is rubber and they give you quite a bit of slack. What took a long time for me was trying to get that hose onto the threaded coupler, so I had to use needle nose pliers to get it on, so it took a little longer, but didn't get any error codes once I hooked the battery back up.

My mpg went down quite a bit only because I was getting used to the sound. After that, I get about 1-3 more mpg for both city and highway. I imagine it'll drop down again when I get axlebacks!!

I know what you're talking about with the MPGs going down in the beginning. I had a heavy foot everytime I got in the car for a few weeks haha.
