Hi guys, i'm new to this forum. I own a 97 altima gxe, 125k miles on it. Awhile back I had overheating issues and flushed the radiatior. Ever since then i've been getting terrible gas mileage (went from 25 to 12 mpg). Not only that but when I am coasting downhill without accelerating the coolant temperature drops to below C. While the car was overheating I never let it get to the red zone, always turned on heater full blast and pulled over asap. The car has some timing chain noise which is common in these cars and starts a little slow. Other than that the car runs great. No check engine lights either. Only thing I can think of is maybe a lazy o2 sensor? I also think the water pump is going bad because when i squeeze the hose and accelerate i dont feel much pressure. I put cardboard in front of the radiator, it helps but not completely. I also changed the thermostat 3 times and flushed 3 times. I changed the coolant temperature sensor. I also forgot to burp the radiator and did that the other day, no change though. I know that gas has 10% ethanol and all now and summer gas is less potent but 12mpg? Something has got to be wrong, no? I even tried resetting the ECU. Need help!
Any help, suggestions or questions would be greatly appreciated guys.
Thanks, Joey
