What's it like owning a hybrid?
I haven't driven or test drive one. Strange is that Nissan does not introduce any Hybrids here. But next year, the Nissan Leaf will be in showcase at the Autoshow in Manila.
I need to hear from you, just generally curious about the following things:
1. Additional Maintenance issues
2. Your personal satisfaction
Thanks in advance.

I've had my 2008 Altima Hybrid for just over 2 years. I do a lot of highway commuting and am approaching 100K miles. It's true that you have to get used to the hybrid, but I drive it pretty much like any car and get 34.5 mpg on my freeway commute at 70-80 mph. I have noticed thuat lowering the car on Eibach springs has given me 1 mpg and has, along with the Stillen rear sway bar, improved handling substantially. I get between 640-700 miles on a tankful using regular (87 octane) fuel.
Maintenance? Using Mobil1 0w-20 oil is expensive, but I change it and the filter every 5000 miles and the car runs like new and uses no oil between oil changes. I have had to change the tires at 80K miles (probably could have gotten 100K, but wanted new tires for wet weather), and the brake pads look like they're good for 150K miles. The only service replacement parts I've changed have been the cabin air filter (50K miles, which is 1 year for me), and switching to a K&N filter, also at 50K miles.
Overall, I love my Altima Hybrid. Drives great, fuel efficient, large and comfortable back seat for the family, reliable...what's not to love?

When buying a hybrid, performance of a car is NOT the reason why you should be buying one. Its a great way for the consumer to save money. In some ways I wish I have bought a Hybrid. I drive 300 miles a week and its rough on gas. Sometimes I can itch out 500 miles to a tank but I have to go 40mph the whole time.

If someone wants to throw out the man card. U can do that to a pink altima with flower rims. BUT if that pink/flower rim altima has a LS9 swap...Im going to call it genius.

I'm going to apologize ahead of time if bringing this thread back is a problem, being that it is older.
The Altima Hybrid is far from lacking in performance, as most of us have already stated above. I will just further agree with everybody here. From personal experience driving too and from school and work, and driving it in a defensive driving class. In the end, we were able to go for Autocross racing. I did try it a few times. I believe that the Altima hybrid was as good as any other car out there on the track, despite it being bone stock. My instructor in my car was telling me how impressed he was that the car was able to pull off the maneuvers as well as it did. (He said that my car was comparable, handling wise, to that of a BMW, but I don't know if I would agree with that. I've never driven a BMW.) Regardless, the car has a more sporty suspension than that of the regular 2.5 and 2.5S, but less than that of the 3.5 series. While racing in the autocross, I managed to pull off a solid range of 27-29 mpg.

All the Altimas have the same suspension except maybe the 3.5sr
And BMWs definitely handle better (I get to whip my buddies 330ci around all the time)
Awesome MPGs though
